The screams and gunshots only intensified Roberts' delusions. "You have the cure? Give it to me! Your blood is clean! Give it to me!" he pawed weakly at Sam's boots as he begged.

The bullets ripped into the former mining employee spinning it around as it screamed in rage more than pain. It quickly scrambled to its feet, large chunks of its torso missing. A black fluid, thick almost like a living carpet of black mold leaked from the wounds. Upon regaining it's feet it roared a challenge and resumed it's assault on the Eights.

Dirk saw the thing take all the punishment that his squad could dish out and keep on coming. From what he was thinking he had only one chance to stop this thing, and it was the one thing he didn't want to do in a cave. He had to fire his grenade. Upping a grenade into the chamber he got ready.

"Fire in the hole!" He shouted as he pulled the trigger of the grenade launcher.

WHAT THE FRAG WAS THAT THING! was the only thought going through Terence's head as the creature ran towards them. Terence had been too shocked to fire in the first wave of gunfire, but now that he saw the mutant could bleed he had come to his senses and was pouring fire on it.

"GET SOME YOU FILTHY MAGGOT!" he yelled as he fired aimed bursts at the creature.

Colson had stopped his scrambling away from the thing, however gaining control of his feet didn't calm the panic. It wasn't going down! The bloody thing kept coming! Just as he was about to open fire yet again he heard Dirks shout.
"Fire in the hole!"
"Bloody hell..." Colson grimaced. This was going to hurt.

At the last moment Dirk thought better about the grenade. The thing was under withering fire from his squad, that should be enough he thought as he pulled his finger off the grenade launcher's trigger and fired the 10mm rounds into the thing.

Clint McKenna kneeled down to Roberts side and attempted to take his hands behind his back and place two sets of flexcuffs on the man. He spoke as calmly as he could, "You'll be alright man, we're gonna try to get you some help for whatever this crap is."

Clint looked up at Sam and around for any other superiors, "Sam, we need to either evac out of here or see if we can find an antidote or cure for this stuff". He didn't add the second half of the statement out loud about them doing that before they all wound up dead.

He could hear radio traffic from 2nd squad inidicating that they were under attack, but he was sure how far away they were or which hallway they had entered. This shits goin South quick he thought to himself.

The creature screamed in rage as it waded against the river of lead roaring towards it. Pieces of flesh littered the ground behind it. It reached out towards Dirk when a round punctured it's temple and it collapsed razor sharp claws scoring his chest and thighs.

There was no telling who had killed the creature. Morse certainly had fired the most rounds, with the most precision, but he had kept most of his shots towards the monsters chest. He may have shifted upwards several times, but he could hardly remember. The moment had left them in combat with a creature that he had never seen before. But as odd as it was, Morse stood at the ready, and unaffected.

”Guess he wasn’t ready.” Morse mentioned in regards to his earlier comment about the marine being ready for an ass kicking.

It may have seemed unusual, but Morse had grown rather numb to surprises. He’d seen some of the worst things imaginable. He’d seen alien parasites pop out of the chests of humans, he’d obliterated nearly a whole tribe of creatures on a strange gaseous world he spent three miserable months on, and he’d lost a leg fighting insurrectionists.

This creature, whatever it was, was now just fitting into the pile. Perhaps eight years earlier he might have been horrified at the sight. But for that moment, Morse felt completely at peace, almost completely unmoved by what had just happened. He simply checked his ammo count, and looked at Dirk.

”Close call.” He said to Dirk. ”We should get the fuck outa here.” Morse suggested. ”Or’t least to a defensible position.”

He was not sure how the others were feeling about the situation, but after all that had happened to Morse, and the amount he was drinking, he was having difficulty feeling anything at all.

Dirk's breath came in ragged gasps as he looked down at the creature and then at the claw marks the thing's claws made in his armor. If he hadn't been wearing the armor he most likely would be bleeding out on the floor next to that thing.

"That damn thing can sure as hell take some punishment and keep coming." He said absently to himself.

Pulling his mic away from his mouth Dirk leaned over to Morse. "We need to get a handle on this, and fast. If we cant figure out and find a way to get it under control they won't let us leave this place, ever."

"Ok second, we're moving to the central control room. They should have some security cameras and maybe the workers location. I know they all had trackers implanted. Lets move out, on the double." Dirk said as he slammed a new clip into his M41A.

He didn't know which round dropped the thing but it did drop. Although not until it had got too close and took a swipe at Dirk. Swapping his mag out for a fresh one he hoped no one had noticed his momentary lack of control.
”Close call.” He said to Dirk. ”We should get the fuck outa here.” Morse suggested. ”Or’t least to a defensible position.”
"Amen to that." muttered Colson on hearing Morse's comment. Looking down at the hunk of ragged meat it was impossible to tell what it was. Morse's smart gun and the combined fire of the rest of the squad and made a mess of it. Anything else would have dropped dead.

"Aye boss." Colson acknowledged falling into position.

As much as Morse wanted to suggest they just run away and leave, he knew that was never going to be a request that was acknowledged. He suggested it on nearly every operation, as most of the time they were left in a situation that they either did not understand, or brought to a place were the likeliness of success was exceedingly slim.

This particular mission fit the description of both problems. They had very limited intel on the enemy other then they were extremely hard to kill. What was more was that if there was even a single other one in the colony, then the entire place was likely either contaminated beyond belief, or nothing but a slaughter house of corpses.

Still Morse kept his mouth shut on those points. Instead he reached down to his canteen, filled to the brim with the whiskey he was told not to use, and he took a nice chug. He repeated the process, and put it back on his leg.

”Load grenades.” Morse suggested, not disputed Dirk’s plan at all. He had given them there relatively long term objective, but Morse was going to be prepared for another short run engagement. ”Those fuckers eat bullets too good, see if blowin’ to pieces works better.”

He of course only carried grenades that were hanging off his leg, not a weapon with a launcher at the ready. But his weapon sent the most powerful slugs in their arsenal, and if they were ready to use grenades as well, they’d be ready for anything.

Terence followed the rest of the squad, while trying not to hyperventilate.

"That was like a nightmare, except I was awake and so was everybody else! Did you see that mother fragger? It was uglier than my last girlfriend and harder to get out of my head!" muttered Terence to himself as he followed the rest of the squad to their new position.
