Turn 10: Welcome to Frankenstein's

<GAMEMASTER INFO

December 1, 2189, 11:23 a.m.

Polaris System, Planet Utica - Former Hiatt Corporation Mining-Complex
Mission Time 17:53, 28 grad celsius, no rain>

After delivering the wounded boy to the APC, Knight and Francis took over and continued the medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Marines found the secret escape tunnel beneath the red crate, as described by the girl. It looked like nobody had discovered it in the meantime. One-by-one, they slowly crawled into the tunnel and made their way forward carefully.
It was pitch black and the darkness was illuminated only by the dancing shoulder-lamps of the squad members. The air smelled odd, like it was not refreshed for eons. The only sound was that from the marine's boots on the ground.

"All Squads, I am uploading a schematic of the underground laboratory facility shortly into your HUDs. Meanwhile, this tunnel you are in will end in approximately 90 meters. There is a hatch which leads into the regular personnel transportation tunnel. Turn right at the hatch and then in approximately 100 meters to the left is the entrance to the laboratory. Find and secure the black goo. Actual out."

And so it was, the hatch could be opened without any problems. The regular personnel transportation tunnel was wider and taller, but it was nearly as dark as in the former. Just some last stands of emergency lights flickered sporadically. Some sort of sounds could be heard in the distance, coming in from the direction of the lab. Inhuman or human, nobody could say.

<Tag everyone>

The schematics of the lab will be uploaded shortly, probably tomorrow. For now, just describe your approach to the labs entrance. It is relevant to the further outcome

Henniger moved with his squad. The kid was handed off and now he could erase that factor from his mind completely. His shoulder lamp swayed and danced off the bulkheads as he moved. Memories of Gaia Station prickled his shoulders and the nape of his neck. He kept his ears trained on the environment and also Paulson's motion tracker.

The tunnel was somewhat tight and hard to squeeze through. The darkness was eerie and Danny couldn't pick out any specific sound. He would have to issue orders. "Second Squad, take point. Third Squad, move up behind them. First Squad, you're tail end Charlie. Move out, people."
<Tag everyone>

Sykes allowed Third Squad to pass him and he stood still until Morse came up. Falling into line beside him, he quietly asked, "What the hell happened back there? Did the kid make it? Did you..." Sykes trailed off. He wanted to ask "Did you see who shot him?" but he decided against it. Whoever shot the kid had done it on accident. It didn't matter now.

Paulson kept his motion tracker active and thanked whatever god was listening he did not have to bear the guilt of that child's life, he had been too busy checking the motion detector to fire quick enough before the cease fire order had come in for that he was both embarrassed and overjoyed.
as they squeezed into the tunnel he again brought up the motion detector set his eyes glued to it and followed Henniger.

Sam never liked making any of her marines take point when it was time for her squad to move in single file formation, but Carlson’s smartgun just made too much sense to ignore. “Okay, Carlson up front, den me, den Dmitri, and Doc has de drag. Stay frosty and look sharp people”, she finished with a slap to her gunners shoulder to move forward......

Davros crept up quietly to his squad, and nodded to his fellow squaddies. He whispered "Kid should live." He didn't want to think about what kind of life it might be, with a couple of holes in his chest. He made sure the safety was off on his SMG and said Let's get these fuckers." He fell in line with the rest of his squad mates and made sure to watch everyones back as they made their way down tunnel.

Henniger could see, hear, smell and feel the tension all around. As 2nd squad has taken point, they exit the smaller tunnel first and turn right, as described by Harper. As Paulson and Henniger go through the hatch he swept his shoulder lamp to the left to cover the ground and .... there. There is something odd down to the left in the tunnel. He really cant say, because the emergency tunnel lighting flickers and distracts more than it illuminates. But he thinks he have caught a glimpse of something or somebody, behind a downed gurney on the ground. It does not move, as paulsons motion tracker would have beeped all along.

"Sarge," he says into his mic as he presents his body and pulse rifle to the possible threat. "Possible contact left. Prone unmoving."

<tag Morse/LT Harper/everyone>

He had grabbed Paulson softly by the elbow when he'd first spotted the contact and now said softly over his shoulder.
"Over there under the gurney."

Henniger and Paulson quietly and carefully approached the gurney.
"Hold up the platoon, 1-3 checking possible contact."
<tag Harper/everyone>
They nodded at each other and Henniger went to it while Paulson covered. Henniger silently mouthed 'on three' and Paulson nodded. He held up three fingers while clutching his pulse rifle tightly in one hand. He used the barrel to flip the gurney.

Davros glanced over his shoulder at the "body" on the floor behind the gurney. All he could think was "Fuck another one, if its one of the enemy he might just say fuck it for what they did to those kids." Davros positioned himself to be able to shoot at the body on the floor and took aim. Davros clicked in on coms, "Make sure to check your targets, Don't need to patch up any more Civies." He shook his head briefly to try and wipe the image of the poor kid out of his mind.

"no close movement" paulson reported, "sever interference at mid to longer range inconclusive signals but looks like movement in the labs up ahead may be" he whispered.
by this time Henniger was reading the count Paulson covered the area ready to lay down any fire that was necessary to back up Henniger.

Henninger and Paulson approached the gurney slowley and carefully. Their shoulderlamps ray of ligh danced from left to right and back. The body behind the downed gurney didn't move, not an inch. Then they noticed the bullet impacts at the gurney, the body and the concrete wall. Small arms fire, most possibly from a pistol. Somebody unloaded at least three magazines. And then they saw ... the body. It was punctured by a lot of bullet wounds, clearly more, than it would had taken to down an ordinary human being. But this was not an ordinary human being, not anymore. Cleary it was human once, but ... that prolonged arms ... like a gorilla ... those talons and this oversized head ... like a melon. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? At least, the blood .. and there was a lot of it ... seemed not to be corosive.

Meanwhile the image from the lab facility got uploaded into the marines personal data store, so they could blend it into their HUDs.

Sergeant Major Sykes inspected the hideous creature sprawled out on the ground. He had never seen it before, but he had seen enough similarly hideous things to not feel much discomfort at the sight. Besides, if it was laying there then it could definitely be killed and that was a plus. “Stay sharp, everybody,” he whispered to the Marines gathered around the body. “Keep moving forward. Move carefully and deliberately, we are room clearing.”
<Tag Marines>

He glanced down at the schematics, which were useful but certainly lacking to some degree. “Ma’am, is there any way we can get more detailed schematics? I don’t see doors or room designations, over.” He tried to keep the irritation out of his voice; he genuinely liked Lieutenant Harper. He knew this was probably the best schematic they were going to get.
<Tag Harper>

Standing near the back of the group, he studied the schematic. An idea came to him that seemed like a good one. “Ma’am, requesting deployment of our reserves with as many sentry turrets as they can carry. We can place them at intervals to prevent being flanked, over.” The sentry turrets were a slow strategy, but it seemed like they had time to play it safe and clear the labs one by one. And if it turned out the turrets weren’t needed, well, there would be plenty of idle hands to lug them all back to the APC.
<Tag Harper>

And at last, there was the body to address. “Third Squad, hold up here for now. Mills, I want you to check out that corpse. See if you can identify what it is. McGreggor, watch him. If that thing so much as twitches, I want it blown straight back to hell."

Well, good old fashioned nightmare fuel, he thought. He raised his brows at Paulson and mouthed the words PROM NIGHT. It distracted him from the bile rising in his throat.

Paulson briefly thought back to prom night, she had been better than that, but not a lot he thought, he quietly chuckled then mouthed back "i wish".
he scanned the motion detector again, the interference was still there but he was sure there was some movement he just couldn't quite get range and bearing yet.
