"Great making us the odd guys out." Jones whispered as Honeysett moved off. He motioned to Konterran to keep sweeping with the motion tracker. Just because we got people up front doing it doesn't mean we shouldn't keep an eye open back here. He lead his men up to the point directed and waited for the signal to move forward. Motioning to Rignon to go last he wanted to keep Konterran in the middle for the best protection. Adjusting his lamp up to scan the ceiling better just incase one of the bastards was trying to get the drop on them. Having switched to 2nd squad comm. "Alright guys remember that these things can use the whole damn terrain to get at us. This isn't a simple groundbattle it is a three dimensional one. Keep scanning with the tracker but don't stay focused on it Altair. Since Khan gone we going to have to bring as much firepower to bear as fast as possible." Chambering his rifle to emphasis the point he switched back to regular comms.

Despite having been told that they weren't to be heavily weighed down Jones had still grabbed a sentry gun. It was hidden in his backpack having gotten rid of his other gear in there. I really don't think I am going to need my tent or rain gear down here so why not some more firepower. He had also told Rigon to grab an incenerator as well as his rifle.
"You gotta be fucking me!" Huey thought, he didn't dare say that outloud. He addressed the new guy. He didn't dare turn his gaze to look at him neither. "Basically, keep your eyes open, follow orders, we're gonna be leapfrogging by Squads and if you see anything that ain't one of us....kill it" He said.
Taking the cue that the man wasn't exactly sympathetic towards his situation, but still grateful for the information, Jonsson nodded and stayed in line. As basic as the command was, he put his full mind onto it. Anything was worth paying attention to when it could save your neck, or that of the person next to you.
Simovic seemed suprised at Jonson's lack of briefing, he'd supsected the USCM were a bit lax with protocal after Green's death, following a previous sucide attempt, but to send a marine out without a briefing was just shoddy.

He spoke to Jonson in a whisper "9th Platoon ran into some sort of creatures down here recently, apparently they've been responsible for killing local civvies. Now we've been sent in to do a bit of exterminating".
Now this was a bit better. Jonsson nodded appreciatively, though he felt his mind begin to fill with all sorts of questions. 'Marines being sent in on extermination duty? Aren't we more for firefights?' Jonsson had mixed feelings on the subject. Though the idea of killing animals was probably better from a safety point of view, he had been looking forward to getting some real heavy experience first off, eager to give his team members a reason to respect him. Still, always best not to kill people when you have the chance. Even if it was necessary, and for the greater good, they still had a way of coming back to haunt you. 'Already too many ugly mugs coming up from those terrorists back home,' he thought, and gritted his teeth. As if it wasn't bad enough remembering them every time he looked at his scarred face in the mirror..

With a quick shake of his head, he brought his mind back to the here and now. He wasn't so unaware that he didn't see the stern, somewhat grim looks on the faces of the marines around him. It wasn't just Green's death that was causing this, though it was certainly contributing. They had the look of serious business around them, not the casual look he would expect from a small scale pest problem. Maybe he would get his fight after all.

"Heh, goin' in on my first mission with almost no briefing, under the ground, and against something that sounds meaner than a hive 'a hornets." He didn't mention that he hadn't been given a new VP-70 to replace his M4-A3 pistol. 'At least they were thoughtful enough to give me a rifle. Would hate to be stuck with only a knife, outdated handgun and a couple of machetes against.. whatever.' "This is the kind of thing that'll either get me killed or get me some glory, aye?" Erik grinned. His genuinely casual tone made it quite clear that he had no intention of letting any other course of events transpire.

"Dugie we're rollin" He whispered to his part Simovic. Moving up a few paces behind Khan, he used him as his test subject, the Friendly transponder was working he could see it clearly on his Motion Tracker. Good news, it would be reading anybody coming at them as an enemy. Huey found a boulder dropped form the ceiling of the cave and took some cover, and panned the tracker around checking it once again to see if it was working. Of course it did.

"This is the kind of thing that'll either get me killed or get me some glory, aye?" Erik grinned. His genuinely casual tone made it quite clear that he had no intention of letting any other course of events transpire.

"Fuck glory" Huey said bluntly, he had no use for glory. "Get this shit done and go home, get some pussy, thats the prize" He said to him. "Only the dead get any glory, so lets do each other a favor and get the fuck out of here alive" He said, he was a trash-talker but he wasn't really going to be talking too much crap on this op.

Grinning he fell in behind Khan and turned round and smiled and nodded at the other squadmembers "How're y'all feeling? Nervous? Any of you want a smoke?"

Huey gave a assuring grin back to him. "All good hear Sergeant"

Simovic stood huddled up with the other three squads as they waited for Jones squad to advance and find cover before giving the order for Chappels squad to leapfrog his. Then his own squad would be up.

It was getting quite cramped with all the marines here but he'd heard that the tunnel branches off soon so he imagined that the squads would split.

Then he spotted 9th's Pltoon Sgt. wondering over.
Walking up to Khan's squad he saluted lazily and dropped and ground out his cigarette. "Take point Squadleader, I'll follow you."

Grinning he fell in behind Khan and turned round and smiled and nodded at the other squadmembers "How're y'all feeling? Nervous? Any of you want a smoke?"
"Nervous not really, still a little bit in the dark as to whats going on, so we move up once 2nd of the 9th and 1st of the 8th have moved up?".

O.O.C Is it really possible to carry a Sentry gun in your backpack, those things are big. And I think a character with 10 strength is going to suffer huge penalties lugging it around. Sorry for going on but you need to be realistic. I'd say it would be possible to split it up into smaller parts (gun, tripod, portable terminal, power supply) amongst a squad but then it'd take a bit of time to assemble, like modern soldiers do with a mortar.

Joe waited for his squad's turn to move and kept a sharp eye on Con for the order. At that moment, Joe realized he really wished they still had Green in their squad.

Khan quickly mad a dash for the next Natural "nook" in the tunnel taking cover. He signaled for the next man to wait, instead of providing cover he lit a cigarette, and then peeked his barrel around the edge of the wall. He lifted his had signaling for the next man to "leap" over him to the next area. They were making good timing, but for what. Run to your own death, and you'll just die exhausted... he exhaled through his nose as the ciggy klung to his lower lip. Khan saw Jones not to far behind him. He hoped Jonesy had something planned.

Looking around, Jacob frowned slightly

"No, no, I don't want you all bunched up

I want the Big Bites securing the perimeter outside the cave, and the Hell Hounds securing the mouth of the cave. The Break Shots are moving into the tunnel until they find a defensible place, and then the Cue Balls are moving past them to the next defensible place. Then Big Bites can move up and past the other three squads, so on and so forth. everyone clear with that?"

He hoped that this would clear things up.

Huey gave a assuring grin back to him. "All good hear Sergeant"
"Good to know..." he looked at the marine "...Huey is it? Well, stay sharp"

Turning his head to the other marine, A private Simovic he heard his response too

"Nervous not really, still a little bit in the dark as to whats going on, so we move up once 2nd of the 9th and 1st of the 8th have moved up?".
"I hope you've comprehended my explanation, if in doubt just follow your squad leader I think he's got the hang of it...not nervous? How can you not be? we're walking into the maws of death if you've any idea what we're going up against." Jacob didn't believe in confidence boosting, he preferred a stark reality. If the marines knew they were against a very tough foe they wouldn't be lax in any way shape or form...

Erik rolled his eyes. A joke is a joke, and even (or maybe especially) in situations like this, snapping at the man who might have your life in his hands a minute later was not a good idea in his mind. Maybe this was just this man's personality. But again, some people didn't react well to strain, and he wasn't going to hold it against this man if that was the case. Maybe he might have the courtesy to return it.
"We're leapfrogging, not having a tea party. How about we get out of this alive first, and then you guys can compare firearms topside." Joe was slightly annoyed by the lack of focus, but he was embarrassed that he snapped at them like that. "Sorry," Joe muttered and turned his attention back to the tunnel and Con.
His pistol still firmly in it's holster, Jonsson couldn't agree more. He gave a nod of appreciation, and reassurance, to Joe, before turning his gaze to Eric. "Up top," he concurred, but without a trace of rudeness in his voice.

Eric looked at the man, annoyed. “Hey, can it pal! We’re a team, and we’re marines, not a militia. Just do your job.â€

Looking at the paper on the man's shoulder plate, Jacob nodded brefly, grimly, his nod said more than words ever could have in this situation. He knew his responsibility. Just as Nick had with Green, poor guy....

Smiling Jacob made the sign of the cross, more for Eric's benefit than his own...

Eric did the same, followed by a salute, which was hard holding a smartgun. He knew the Sarge was agnostic, and respected that he was being respectful to Eric’s religion.

Seeing the squads finally getting the plan, Bojan decided to stick with the first squad of his platoon with his rifle in his hand. Unsure as to whether or not Jacob had heard him he said again over the comm to him, "Is this a similar situation to when you lost that finger?" It was never good fun to be under a gag order.

The APC was quite it seemed all the marines were preoccupied with the recent death of their fellow marine. Altair didn’t feel neither sorrow nor grief after all if the man wanted to take away his own life it was his own business. What the boy didn’t like was the way the corps have overlooked the mental condition of the marine. Altair was just glad that the man had killed just himself, what if the man decided to kill himself during the mission, compromising the whole platoon. Being a medic and undergoing practice in the hospital before he joined the corps, Altair had seen such people; sometimes such people killed their own family and loved ones without even realizing what they have done. In the corps when you had live ammo and was trained to kill it was even more dangerous. The corps should check the marines after each mission and seed out all those who were deemed mentally or physically unstable – too many lives were at stake.

Altair shuddered from the cold gnawing at his bones. Waiting for the eighth platoon to descend, the boy followed suit just as he few seconds later found himself in much too familiar surroundings. The current situation and movements of the platoons seemed too confusing for the boy, not sure what to do the Altair fell in after Tarik, his new squad leader and close friend. The boy was glad that the man was promoted and made squad leader, he deserved it. Remembering the boot camp the boy smiled, Tarik had done a very good job, Altair too had tried his hand at leading the men but he didn’t feel comfortable, Tarik on the other hand looked like he was a very experienced squad leader.

Oblivious to the occasion conversations taking place around him, Altair instead monitored the motion tracker given to him on previous mission, periodically reporting his findings to Khan.

"The only difference is that we aren't on a spaceship Bojan..." Said Jacob in a voice that you could tell was trying hard to suppress nerves.

He could feel the effects of the drug slowly stirring within him, and kept drumming his fingers on the barrel of his gun...
