Turn 4 Divide and Conquer (Delta Dogs)

The Marines stood around the tunnel mouth that leads deeper into the ground. The chamber in which they stood measured roughly eight meters by eight meters with the tunnel that Lt. Morrison and his original four had encountered the scorpions as they had labeled them branched off to the northwest where it met with the main tunnel twelve meters back that way. At this point it was up to the Sergeants to decide the direction the Marines were going to take. With the 9th undermanned the decision was for them to make their way back up the North West Tunnel and map out the complex tunnels there. The Eights would drop down to the lower tunnel sections and map out as much of the location as possible.

As the Ninth worked their way back up the tunnel toward the original tunnel, they came across the charred remains of the scorpion like creatures that had been taken out by the retreating marines. The face of the tunnel had melted and run together like wax on a candle. Through this nightmarescape of death and destruction the marines marched until they reached the intersection of the two tunnels; a turning southward would return them to the surface. If they chose to continue along the current tunnel they would head northward and deeper into this maze of tunnels.

Passing the scorpion corpses and melted tunnel was an odd comfort to Joe. For the first time, he didn't feel so lost in this maze of tunnels. However, it also brought back the memories of seeing large and deadly creatures jumping out of the darkness. Joe strained his eyes to look as far down the tunnel as torchlight and heat signatures would allow. Then he looked up the southward tunnel, "I guess they're not paying us to leave this early. Onward and downward it is, huh?"

Joe was pretty sure he knew the answer, but he waited to hear it from the guys in charge anyway.

OOC: I assumed Honeysett was with Ninth now.

"That's right Joe, I want an incinerator and smartgun up front with pulse rifles to back up behind. If we get contact I want the 2 frontguys to drop to one knee, here's an advance order to fire at will if there's contact." Jacob kept his response curt and business-like, there didn't need to be idle chit chat here.

Joe looked around at the other guys and then back at Honeysett. "I've got an incinerator," Joe nodded over his shoulder to the weapon on his back, "and this sniper rifle. How do you want me to play?"

When Joe started his first mission with the Marines, he was very happy to be assigned the team's sniper. He thought this meant most of the time he'd be far away from whatever he was killing. So far, his experience had shown him otherwise. For that reason, Joe was willing to fill whatever role was needed.

"Go up front with the flamer Joe, your sniper rifle's pretty useless here, shoulda swapped it when we were arming up...still - last resort weapon eh? Give us constant updates on your incinerator fuel, when you're running too low we'll swap you back, clear?" Replied Jacob briefly. Surreptitiously he lit a cigarette, cupping it to conceal the glow...

Quiet the whole way down the hole, he had led his squad following Honeysett.

"Go up front with the flamer Joe...
Joe acknowledged the order and moved up front. Once in place, he started to creep ahead silently scanning the ground, walls, and ceiling. Joe gave a quick look over his shoulder to be sure that the rest of the team was following, and then squinted into the darkness ahead. It was a different feeling being on point.
