Turn 5 Descending - Easy eights

Post by Nick » Mon May 21, 2007 4:55 pm

The easy eights worked their way down in the tunnel - It was pitch black down here and they had all switched to their shoulder lamp. The white archs shone on the black rock that glistened and glittered. It was moister down here.

After a few minutes of careful advancement downwards the incline got steeper to shallow out again. The gurgling and sprinkling of water could be heard, the sound bouncing between the walls. Small particles of water started to appear in the shafts of their powerful lights.

It was getting a little warmer too.

The tracker showed nothing. Toc. Toc. Toc. Toc. The eerie sound that everyone listened to slavically. The tracker where their lifeline, their one chance to spot an ambush before it was too late.

Problem was. The tracker only caught movement. The Marines passed beneath the alien that laid curled together a few meters above them - Nearly invisible as it blended in with the dark and moist rock so well.

Distracted by the small stream of water they never heard the scratching sound as the creatures curled out into full length.

And pounced.

Private Hawkins was slammed to the ground face first. With a spine chilling crack the head literally smacked the ground and bounced up again. The helmet saving her life.

The other Marines spun and saw the huge black creature on her back preparing to deal the coupe the grace to her.

With Hawkins being towards the back of her squad and Tarik being on point for 2nd squad, Khan reacts quickly "HOSTILE SIGHTED 2ND SQUAD HIT THE WALL AND TAKE COVER!!"

He knew if he fired there was a good chance both Hawkins and the beast would be ripped to shreds not to mention the rumored acid for blood If it came down to it, he'd have to give the order to have the monster eliminated reguardless of collateral damage. He knew 1st squad would be closer to her and have a better shot, all he could hope for was that his men wouldn't get caught in the crossfire. As his shoulder crashed agaisnt the moist bulkhead and took a knee he grabbed the closest rock he could find and quickly threw it at the beast in hopes he could maybe distract it from Hawkins. "HEY SHITHEAD" he yelled as he threw the rock.

Simovic descended into the tunnel quitely after the ticking off from his Squad Leader, he noticed the strange water particles falling from the ceiling and the change in temperature.

As the Marines progressed through the tunnels Simovic had been watching the rear and didn't see what happened to Hawkins the pretty blonde medic but he heard the aweful thud and wheeled round to see a ghastly creature crouched on her, instantly he realised that this was the creature that the veterans and the General had been talking about. He then heard Tariks order and quickly made his way to the tunnel wall and covered the rear, hoping that one of First Squad would be able to save the Medic's life.

Jonsson had been watching the ceiling behind first squad, but then at the sound from ahead of his position, he whirled around. He had been doing the right thing, just not in the right place.

He swung his gun around, but realized he couldn't get a clear shot. Besides, he didn't know how strong the acidic blood from the creature would be. It could kill Hawkins even if he did make a remarkable shot.

He knew he had little time to act. As a thrown rock whipped by him towards the creature, he dropped his rifle to the floor and pulled out one of his machetes. He span the blade around in his hand, so the blade was facing backwards, not willing to risk piercing the monster's skin with the razor sharp edge. He charged the creature, launching his left shoulder straight at it. Knowing he wasn't heavy or strong enough to dislodge the creature with sheer force, he brought the dull edge of his machete in as fast and hard as he could towards the creature's head, hoping he would stun or distract it long enough for Eric or someone else to drag, wrestle, or shoot the thing off. He tried his best to get his body and left arm into a position where he would be able to defend himself if his initial attempt failed. He shouted loudly but unintelligibly, the sound coming along with a ragged tearing sound from his scarred throat. He couldn't see any ears on the thing, or any other sensory device, but he wanted to give the medic every sliver of chance he could to get out from under the monster.

Eric was looking at the water in the light from the flashlights on his gun, and in the light from his shoulder lamp, then put his attention back to covering the front. He had a nasty feeling. Then he heard a loud thump behind him, and spun around, seeing Angie lying face first on the floor, his instinct was to blast the thing off of her, but remembered that they had acid for blood, and if it could eat through Honeysett’s finger, it would probably kill Angie. He saw Erik Jonsson slam into it with his whole body, shouting loudly, the sound sending chills up Roberts' spine. He reacted quickly, trusting Chappell to cover the front. Eric dropped the smartgun to hang from the metal arm that attached it to his suit, almost pulling him over. He pulled out his VP-70 pistol, ran over to Jonsson, and shoved against its body in the same direction. He put the pistol to its head, ready to unload

(OOC: I’m going to fire out my pistol into its face if we get its head off of Hawkins, and if not ill just push to help.)

The rock thrown missed the abomination by a hairsbredth, but it distracted it long enough to let Pvt Jonsson attack the creature with his machete.

The machete struck the creature amidst its long head, with a twang the blade glance off without doing as much as a scratch. Suddenly Jonsson saw something blurred in the corner of his eye. The next moment he was violent slammed into the tunnel wall by the creatures whipping tail.

The creature left Hawkins and crouched down to pouch on the dazed Jonsson.

With the monster off of Hawkins it didn't take much to realize this was their only chance.."HIT THE DECK!!" Tarik Screamed hoping they'd get belly down on the dirt Khan looked back at Dugan who had already set up for the shot with his pistol and screamed at Dugan " NOW!!" and with that Dugan opened fire on the creature Khan was well aware of their speed and kept his hand close to the trigger of his M56 just in case. As Dugan fired his weapon the hairs on Tarik's neck stood straight up, he had the chills, a feeling he hadn't gotten in a long time...TK suddenly realized this might not be the only one..after Dugan had began to fire he took a split second to check over his shoulder to ensure nothing was behind them and brought his attention back to the threat at hand. Pulling out his M4A3 and firing off 3 shots as well.

"HIT THE DECK!!"
Eric let his hanging smartgun pull him over onto his face, smashing his face against the ground like Hawkins, the green baseball cap coming off and laying on the mucky floor. He felt his nose smash against the ground, and saw blood spill out onto the floor. He turned his head to the left, ignoring the pain, and also fired his pistol into the monster from his awkward position on the floor. It was their only chance, and he didn't want to see Jonsson or Hawkins or anyone die, and wanted to do his best to assist the others. He could only hope the acid wouldn't spray too far.

Simovic heard Khan's shouted order and spun around and aimed at the crouching creature and fired 3 shots at it from his VP-70.

Several pistol shots rang out as two VP70 opened up rapidly. The creature was struck multiple times and jagged holes where punched in its black armor. With a shriek it turned its tail and ran down in the tunnel - Bullets chasing it, some of them bouncing of the hard mountain wall screaming like mad bees.

Small puddles of white-yellow milky fluid had spilled on the floor and started to eat into the rock while whisps of fume rose above them. A faint hissing could be heard.

The marines quickly scanned the area but didn't detect anymore.

Simovic couldn't believe what he'd just seen the thing that had attacked his comrades was easily about 7ft tall and had not even flinched when struck with a machete, yes the pistol shots had injured it but anything else shot that many times would have been easily killed.

He holstered his still smoking pistol and quickly ran over and started helping Hawkins and Jonsson to their feet "You two OK, Is anyone injured?".

I can't believed that worked... Khan thought to himself..he holstered his weapon and got back to his feet. He nervously lit a cigarette, this was the first sign of Khan's anxiety since the start of the mission. " Alright fellas we're not getting paid by the hour..." He took point of 2nd squad again and Simovic assisted the two Marines to their feet.

Khan reached into his webbing and produced a Flare he sparked it and dropped it to the ground. Their position was compromised and they hadn't killed the Creature, most likely it would come back with re-enforcements. It wouldn't hurt seeing what the Hell they were doing for the moment.
"Chappell how's everything up front? We're ok back here." Khan radioed in.

"Bojan what are your orders?"
He holstered his still smoking pistol and quickly ran over and started helping Hawkins and Jonsson to their feet "You two OK, Is anyone injured?".
Gratefully accepting the hand Simovic lent him, Jonsson struggled to his feet. Looking down, he realized he still held the machete. He'd been hit so hard he hadn't even had time to let go. It was just pure luck that had stopped him from landing on top of the blade.

His head spinning, he didn't quite hear Simovic's inquiry. It could only be one thing though, so he answered. "Yeah I'm fine." He rubbed his hurt back, then shook his head like a dog, trying to clear it.

He looked at Hawkins, anxious to see if she was alright after hitting the floor that hard. Seeing she was well enough to regain her feet, he gave a slight, somewhat sheepish smile. "Well, that was about the dumbest thing I've ever done." 'Remarkably similar to a previous situation.. only that one didn't involve a frikkin' monster!'

Eric shut his eyes for one second, then grunted as he stood up, holding the smartgun and pistol. He dropped out the almost empty clip from the VP-70, and replaced it with one of the many full ones in his bag. He holstered it , then went to help Hawkins to her feet. “Are you alright Angie?â€

Huey's motion tracker picked up movement. It was close, real fucking close, before he could even hell out that it was right on top of them it landed right on top of Angie. Luckily some quick decision making and really stupid stunts.

When Dugan turned around to engage the Alien Huey traded spots and covered the rear. He expected an ambush. With some fire the xenomorph ran off. Now they were in for it. Wiping some sweat off his brow Huey glanced at his Motion Tracker.

"Man I can't believe that shit worked" He said in a low voice astonished. "You guys alright?" He asked. He may not have liked either one of the Eric's but that didn't mean he wished getting fucking impaled by one of those things.

"We probably need to get moving Tarik, I think we're gonna see more of him, real soon" He warned.
