Date: 22nd October, 2080AD, 0710UT
Location: Lambda Serpentis, 10 kilometers out from Pirate base
Operation: Thunderclaw
Mission timer: 00:22:45

Databasa and simulations where studied for one hour before dropship prep. The Marines went to business effeciently, a well oiled machine by now. The new guys did their part as well, though they had to ask for direction every now and then. The powerloaders stomped around on the hangar deck, loading crates and missiles onto the Dropship.

Carson and Manny where refueling the dropship and doing some flight avionics controls.

Lt Vincent held a quick extra brief with the squadleaders in the armory while the marines prepared for drop.

Five hours later the Marines started to get ready. The last checks where made and the Marines started to outfit themselves. Armor plates where put into place, weapons and ammunition where handed out.

Priest drove the APC onboard the dropship who was warming up it's engines. With a thud its massive tires entered the ramp as it reversed into the belly of the ship.

Twelve minutes later they entered the atmosphere of Lambda Serpentis IV, the ship shuddered slightly but soon stabilized. The roaring of the air hammering against the hull was a distant rumble inside the APC. Lt Vincent made a few checks. Everyone was online, all cameras where working, vital signs...ok.

The dropship set down with a soft jolt, the baydoor dipped and the APC accellerated down the ramp rapidly with Priest behind the wheel.

"Clear!" Lt Vincent declared a fraction of a second later and the dropship shot up and tilted over and disappeared behind a nearby hill in breakneck speed.

The APC bumped and shook as it rapidly traversed the terrain.

Eileen raised her voice to be heard over the rumble of the dropship, "The dropship will take us to two kilometres from the base, unless it there's a danger we'll be seen. The rest we do on foot."

"We'll move into position to observe the base, get an estimate of enemy numbers."

"Priest, how long till we reach position?"

"Okay squad, are we all good, anything I need to know before we get there?" Bojan asked. He needed to make sure everything was as good as it could get before they got there. "I hope you guys could carry the grenade load out i asked for. So who couldn't?" Bojan asked. Earlier he had asked they each take 2 of M38, M51A, M108 and M60 grenades as well as load an extra M108 in the grenade launcher. He assumed Jim didn't take any as he had no grenade launcher.

Huey crossed himself on the way down on the dropship. Raised a Catholic, he was a religious young man, and no matter where he went he always said his prayers. To some people it would seem that God had abandoned those on the frontier, but for him, as long as he was at peace with the Lord he was fine. He was afraid, not really afraid but nervous. He wasn't really scared because they were the ones attacking, the Pirates didn't know they were coming and they had quite a bit of firepower with them.

The HIMAT was tied down, he'd be carrying the base-plate and bipod for PFC Bren to help him out with the load. He didn't like that you only had one shot to fire, but it would count. It couldn't be called a smart weapon, it was a freaking genius of a weapon, again just a little more comfort.
Williams, a Comtech, carried all of thie tech gear for electronic infilitration and the Laser Targeter they would use for Artillery bombardment should the need arise. He double checked his gear on the ride to the base, it was all good.

"Okay squad, are we all good, anything I need to know before we get there?" Bojan asked. He needed to make sure everything was as good as it could get before they got there. "I hope you guys could carry the grenade load out i asked for. So who couldn't?" Bojan asked.

"Its all good" He had spent a little extra time with his grenades, he loaded the Buckshot and HEAP rounds into his Rifle, alternating, Bucks first and HEAPS second. The rest of the grenades were all stored on his harnesses. He patted them down showing, the colors showing which ones he had.

"Hey Lieutenant, we going to be working together as a platoon on this one?"

Nick looked around at the rest of the gathered marines as the APC sped over the ground towards the target area.

"You marines ready to rock and roll?" he said loudly over the noise of the APC.

"Bojan, Chappell remember this is seek and destroy so don't worry about taking prisoners. Pass that on to the rest of your squads. Anyone with a weapon is a target, take them down hard and fast, don't bother warning them. If we run into anything we can't handle we are going to fall back and figure out a way to deal with it before moving on. Understood?" he asked the two Lance Corporals.

"Sure thing sergeant", Bojan replied. As squad leader, Bojan didn't have as much time as he used to for reading on the way to a mission. It was something he missed.

"Squad, the Sergeant would like to remind all of us that its seek and destroy and to drop anyone with a weapon and I wholeheartedly agree." shouted Bojan to his squad over the sounds of the APC engine.

"Sweep & Clean, people, by the numbers"

The order had been given, and now Rednus was eager as always to see what lay in store for his new unit. The nervousness and secrecy other squad leaders were showing didn't help, neither did being left out of so-called 'vital info.'

Hell anything could happen , he thought , and with one movement, began to eat the first of a twenty pack of smokes, a filter was spat out and landed somewhere near Dugans left leg

Red nodded at his target and smiled a tobacco-laced grin, wondering if anyone was gonna come back from this op.

The rocking of the APC as it sped towards the target was comforting to Nick. After all the time he'd spent in APCs moving from one place to another, usually while under fire, it had given him the view that an APC was one of the safest places to be. Well it was, right up until people started firing missiles at them.

"Hey Mckenzie," said Nick over the noise inside the APC, "how you holding up after that last mission? You're part of second squad so I need you to be working together with Chappell like a well oiled machine. You going to be up to it marine?"

"Pvt's Bren, Skellen, Simovic, Williams. Listen up! Since you are the new guys, let me inform you what your job is. Your job is to make sure I stay alive and well, and the best way to do that job is to make sure you do everything your squad leaders ask of you. They've been through all this before and will be able to handle any problems that arise.

"If you have a question, ask it. I wan't you all to be a hundred percent certain of what you are supposed to be doing. If you have a bad feeling, tell your squad leader straight away. It could be nothing but I'd rather be safe than lose somebody because we didn't every precaution.

"Keep your eyes and ears open as we move to the target. We don't want anything surprising us at all. We want to be the ones doing the surprising. This mission ain't going to be a cake walk but we are going to get through it intact if everybody does their job. You marines understand?"

Dugan looks down at the cigarette butt at his feet and looks at his Squad leader "Those things will kill you Sir", he says grinning.

O.O.C I've taken a load out of 6 M40 HE (4 loaded already), 2 M71A1 Starshell, M60 White Phosphorous and 2 HEAP grenades. Rednus do you want anyone in our squad to carry a Flame Unit instead of a Pulse Rifle?

"Hey Lieutenant, we going to be working together as a platoon on this one?"
"Sticking together," Eileen replied, "We'll sweep through the base starting from wherever they're numbers are concentrated, then wipe out whoever's left."

Eileen gave her own gear a final check, before climbing down to the front of the APC to join Priest. Holding on to the back of the driver's seat, she leaned over to get a view of the terrain racing ahead. "How much further?" she asked over the noise of the engines.

James looked around at his Squad Mates, his grin spread from ear to ear. Reaching into the front of his combat shirt, he slipped out a small leather bag. Quill work had been done on it in the form of an eagle merging into a bear. He pulled out the two grease pencils that were within it; of course his ancestors used render fat and natural dyes to paint their faces. Pulling out a small metal mirror, he began to paint in the black and white designs he had begun wearing on his face.
After he was finished with the paint, he slipped on his head gear and linked the Smartgun into his battle harness. Turning to his L. Cpl Bojan he grinned, “Locked and Loaded LC, Locked and Loaded. Let the good times roll!!!â€

"Yeah, I'll be high speed and low drag..." adds McKenzie solemnly. It's obvious to those that knew him before the last mission that he is obviously still effected. " checking the power coupling and systems checks through his smart gun's eyepiece He then adds a thumbs up to Nick as an additional sign of assurance.

"Squad, the Sergeant would like to remind all of us that its seek and destroy and to drop anyone with a weapon and I wholeheartedly agree." shouted Bojan to his squad over the sounds of the APC engine.

"Cha-hoo!" Shouted Huey "Ready to Rock and Roll!" He roared his fist up in the year.

"Keep your eyes and ears open as we move to the target. We don't want anything surprising us at all. We want to be the ones doing the surprising. This mission ain't going to be a cake walk but we are going to get through it intact if everybody does their job. You marines understand?"

"Ooo-rah Sergeant" Huey said, "And don't do anything stupid" he thought to himself. The whole time he had been here he was getting rid of that Recruit mentality. His voice was still a bit raspy from all the yelling in Boot Camp, fortunately he hadn't called his Sergeant "Sir" by mistake yet. One small victory. Only baby steps to being a Marine, he'd see what it was like soon enough.

Looking at Eagle, putting on his war paint, prompted Huey to do the same, just with Marine standard issue instead. Green and Black were the only two colors that he put on. "Eagle, you one crazy motherfucker you know that" He said laughing, not forgetting the story earlier.

Eagle turned his black and white painted face to look at the man speaking to him, he was a newbie and Eagle could be a prick and rude or he could accept him with the open arms of a brother. He chose the later option; "Well you know what they say it takes a crazy man to lead other crazy men so I figure if we're all crazy I need to be the craziest sucker of the bunch!"
