The first bullet struck Mathais in the head dropping him, the second ripped through his chest so that he felt no pain as his body collapsed. Then the Marine's of the Easy Eights opened fire with all guns blazing pouring round after round into the prisoners and pirates. Before the marine's could advance any further into the field of battle a large shadow passed overhead. A dropship came down in between the Marines and their prey, it was of unknown origin and make. Ports popped open and hatches dropped down, and the marines began to scatter for cover as the Pirates opened fire with their own heavy weapons. The APC's were struck, with multiple rounds and the imminent destruction warning began to sound. During the chaos that ensued, James Screaming Eagle streaked into the midst of the pirates and prisoners and grasped Mathais' crumpled form and dragged him into the shadows of the forest. Doing a preliminary examination, he determined that there was still a pulse. Weak and possibly fading, but the man was still alive despite having been electrocuted, shot in the head, and chest. Ripping open the first aid kit strapped to his thigh, James pulled out the large syringe containing morphine rammed it home. At least if nothing else, James thought, the man will feel no pain as he takes the last journey home.

He turned to re-enter the fray, determined to take down as many of the enemy as he possible could only to find that his unit was being forced to retreat as first one of the APCs and then the other exploded. Fortunately for his men the enemy was not intent on taking them out but, rather in extraditing their men. The dropship was quickly loaded as the Pirates on well trained and organized men patrolled the perimeter. James realized that they were employing Marine Corp standard formations, two men fire teams and four men squads.

He noticed movement over the small rise and quickly keyed his mic to the officer's channel. "Honeysett, pull the men back. Get on the horn and call in the dropship. I want to get Mathais and the rest of the men off this asteroid and back to the command ship. We were poorly undermanned for this mission. Do you read me?"

Fifteen minutes after the last of the pirates and the large dropship left the hotzone, one of the Cheyenne Dropships dropped down into the smoke marked LZ's. Priest and Abbott broke from the vessel and quickly carted Mathais back and loaded him in.

Ten minutes later and the marine's were unloading inside the docking bay of the Costangua. Captain McCoy stood in the bay, his face a look of anger at the failure of the Marine's before him.
"You are the sorriest sum-beaches I have ever had the dishonor of leading. How in the hell do you let a group of unorganized Pirates and Prisoners disassemble your team so effectively?"
Without even giving the Captain an opportunity to finish, James Screaming Eagle walked over to the man. Looked up into his eyes, "Begging the Captain's Pardon, but shut the hades up." Before the Captain could blink an eye or even respond James snapped off a quick punch and laid the man out cold.
"Come on Men, let's go get cleaned and showered. This dick head has never set a foot on a battlefield. He was sent to us straight from a college where he was a ROTC professor. You men have more experience in your pinkies after this mission than he has in his lifetime."

With that James stormed out of the bay and into the showers.

After the first shot hit Mathais Dirk started shooting anything that moved. Everyone over there needed to die for what they made he and Fox do. Dropping two pirates or prisoners befor Mathais hit the ground didn't make him feel any better.

He heard the ship before he saw it. A dropship came down in between the Dirk and his prey.

"No fuckin way you are leaveing here alive"

He spat at the enemy But the heavy weapons opened up on the APCs, throwing Dirk back. Getting back on his feet he started to open fire on the open ports and hatches on the dropship. Blood from a gash over his right eye kept getting in his eye bluring his vision. Wipeing the blood away for the third time Dirk kept puoring fire from the sniper rifle into any open port of the enemy ship.

Dirk watched the last of the enemy bug out. "This ain't over you sons of bitches. Not by a long shot." He said as thier ship took off.

Lighting an cigaret he watched the Cheyenne Dropship come in and land. Priest and Abbott took Mathais and loaded him in. Before he knew it they were all standing in formation getting an ass chewing from a Captain he did not remember seeing before. Then he saw something that almost made Dirk smile.

When it was over Dirk didn't head to the showers.Without saying a word to anyone, he walked to medical bay to check on Mathais. He was not sure what he would find or if he was even alive, but he owed him that, atleast. On the way Dirk tookout the old weathered USMC Kbar. looking at it for a moment he cut into the top of his left forarm, deep enough to leave a scar. Looking at it for a moment he said one word "Mathais" And then moved slowly back on his way to medical.

Looking at the floored captain, Jacob snarled and spat at his prostrate figure before standing over him.

"Marines. We did a tough mission - were beaten back, yet live to fight on. You all showed incomparable bravery...and unswerving loyalty. The fact of the matter is - these bastards now know that taking a captive just wont work. It was ruthless in the short run, but it won't happen again. They know they can't fuck the US Marine Corps around! SEMPER FI!!!!"

Lighting a cigarette Jacob stepped over the body and into the marines.

"Those of you left alive - don't get cocky...in this job it's only a matter of time before you get killed. It's what we're expected to do ultimately. Now, I feel like a game of poker and a drink to relax...who's in?!"

Jackal retreated to cover when the enemy dropship closed in. The giant shadow drew his attention along with the APC getting barriged. He looked at his meter that red 12. He dropped the clip and slammed a fresh one into the gun. The meter jumped back from 00 to 99. The highness from his job was taking affect on him. The heavy arsenal was raining down apon his armor. The man getting dragged off the field caught his attention. His IR lense came down to reveal it was a human figure. He was thinking about the xenomorphs for a second as he picked his Sniper rifle back up and peered through the lense to reveal it was James of the screaming eagles. Bullets rang by and Fox made his retaliation by bursting some rounds into the doors of the dropship of the pirates so he dropped the sniper rifle to his back thanks to the strap on it. He keeped his back towards to the evac sight. Every time explosion went off from the pirates he sent a burst towards the last visible steam from there barrels.

Fox thought to himself. All I would need is a satchel and I would make my way to the ship and set the charges. I don’t think that was on the mind of the squad leader when he sent us on this mission. It's something wacky with them...its a little old but I can manage placing a satchel, after thats what i learned to do after i passes my physical training in the seals program.

Fox followed through with the showers and getting dressed. He waited patiently for everyone. Fox pulled out a smoke. "Shit, she got me lights."Fox pulled the filter out of the smoke and ripped it in half. He burnt off all the fuzz from the rip and put the half back into the smoke and lit it up. He wondered if he would get promoted or anything for volunteering for that shot. Fox proved his loyalty to the CORE.
Yet his bound to get rewarding if he keeps this behavior up he thought.

Eric had been firing into the enemy, when he saw the dropship closing in. He turned his turret and opened fire on it. But he heard the APC siren wailing out its own destruction, and dropped out of the turret. He ran for the exit, and slammed the door open, as he rolled out. He ran away from the APC, and made his way to the other one. He heard the APC explode behind him, and then saw the one he was about to get into, explode. He pulled out his VP-70 pistol, and fired off two clips into the dropship.

When he got out, he stood there silently as he watched Screaming Eagle knock out the Captain. He was already getting transformed by the service, a month before he would have been horrified by the lack of discipline. But he stood there silently, and then left the room with the others. He split off on his own, and opened up his tiny Bible, that was starting the rough and tear around the edges. He thought about printing off another, but changed his mind. He'd had this bit of paper since before his first mission. He knew all the verses by memory anyways. He was very fond of it now, being a look back into his past life, as he read the note he had written on the back, right before his first mission.

Quinn's burst fire slammed into several pirates and prisoners. The carnage shocked a part of his mind, while another part reveled in it. When he ducked behind cover to reload, he snapped a look at his bio reader on the Marines. Despite everything he had gone through, Matthias was still alive! Quinn's initial shock was shaken off as his sense of duty and selflessness overrode anything else.

"Cover me!" he screamed to the rest of the platoon. Ramming another magazine into his rifle, he popped out several grenades as he ran for Matthias's location, spraying with his rifle on full automatic when his magazine emptied of grenades.

No time to reload. Just run. Get to Matthias. Get him out of combat. was his train of thought. Anyone who saw Quinn's charge probably thought him crazy, maybe with the exception of Screaming Eagle who knew what he was running for. Even as his pulse rifle was completely empty, Quinn bolted from cover to cover, even risking open ground to get to Matthias. His patient. His fellow Marine.

Quinn slid into the dirt next to Matthias's body and tossed his pulse rifle to the ground while ripping open his surgery kit. The next several minutes would determine whether the Marine would live or die. But while Sixtus was living, he would do everything in his power to make sure this Marine came home. Came home to his girl, to his parents. To his squad. To the people he cared most about.

Quinn was able to stabilize the man (assuming that's within his capability) for transport, and snapped open the folding stretcher. During the crazyness, he failed to note a wound in his shoulder that was slowly bleeding. He didn't notice the pain. A man who was in far worse pain than he could be was before him and needed to be cared for.

Matthias was safely on the stretcher for transport. Quinn called two of the other Marines over who could lift the man while Quinn himself kept an eye on his vitals. Once on the dropship, Quinn strapped him down and monitored him. He noted that the man was simply a medical miracle. Despite everything he'd been through, he was still alive. A miracle. Twas almost enough to drive a man to religion. In the light, everyone could see that Quinn's armor was now bathed in the man's blood.

Once on the Constagua, Quinn ignored the Captain and simply snapped a hasty salute so he couldn't be charged with anything as he ran past with Matthias on the crash cart to medical bay. Once inside, he just removed his harness and began assisting the medical crew (unless he IS the doctor) in Matthias's surgery. (gonna need a surgery roll. C'mon perfect roll!)

When the fire started Dugan had ordered First Squad to drop all of the prisoners and pirates Surrounding Mathias. This had been done with immense precision and speed, which pleased him as he knew he could rely on his men.

Dugan heard the drone of the dropship overhead looking up he knew they were in trouble, luckily Honeysett had called a wise retreat and he motioned for First Squad to fullback into hard cover. It was then he heard the explosion of the APC's in quick succession, he'd hoped to god everyone had made it off ok.

From cover Dugan ordered first squad to concentrate their fire on the dropship but with most of the squads heavy weapon depleted and the loss of the APC's it was like throwing stones at a tank this coupled with the fact the Marines own dropships were to far to assist meant that the remaining bastards made their escape. Still he made sure a few well aimed M40 Grenades fired through the open dropship ports turned the occupants into a red mist. Dugan would make sure next time one of his squad was carrying an M78 Phased Plasma Infantry Gun to deal with situations such as these.

The Captain spouting off hadn't really surprised him, he was sat behind a desk so what the hell did he know? Screaming Eagle laying him out was surprising though and Dugan realised he'd probably be demoted for his actions, at the least.

Dugan fellout with the others turning to Pitt he said "You did well under difficult circumstances, it's not easy carrying out orders like that and if you feel you need to speak to someone, there are people I can put you in touch with.....plus i'm always here if you just want to shoot the breeze". Dugan patted the Marines shoulder before going off to check on Mathias.

It was amazing that this man had even survived a few seconds let alone the journey back to the U.S.S Costaguana. Mathias was now in the ships Medical Bay Quinn and Abbot were working on stabilising him.

"Good work down there Quinn, i'm going to be putting forward for commendation, you showed immense courage under fire, I just hope Mathias pulls through to thank you personally".

After speaking to his men Quinn then goes and showers and catches up with the others for a card game and some well earned down time.

"He will if I have anything to say about it." Quinn told him, not taking his eyes off of what he was doing. "But we're not out of the woods just yet."

"Hells yeah," Jonsson growled back to Jacob, as he shot a glare at the captain. 'Someone had to do it,' he thought. 'I'm liking this Screaming Eagle more by the minute.'
