Scene One: Briefing

Post by Pale Rider » Mon Aug 06, 2007 3:39 pm

Date: December 9, 2079
Location: USS Costaguana, Milky Way Sector

Captain McCoy walked into the briefing room on the third deck of the Costaguana. Lt. Morrison greeted him with a nod as he settled into his seat on the stage. Sergeant James Screaming Eagle stood behind the podium going over some last minute details with the rank and file of the Easy Eights.
"Listen up marines, according to video surveillance provided by each and every member of the unit there has been some problems with discipline or should I say rather a lack of discipline. Many of you would have found yourselves up for promotions, but after observing the information and speaking directly with your commanding officer and his staff we find ourselves in a situation where this unit did not pass the muster. Furthermore, Captain McCoy wants me to make it clear to everyone here, that you are replaceable. If you can't follow orders we will find someone who will. So look closely around you at the people sitting next to you. Failure to follow orders can result in their being killed. When you are given a direct order don't just pay lip service to the person giving the order by God get up off your behind and do the task. Lt. Morrison has been authorized by his superiors to address these issues with extreme measures. He has been given the authority to send a person to the brig if we are in a situation where their ineptitude at following orders is highly evident. In a hostile situation if someone fails to comprehend their orders and repeatedly refuse to comply he has been given permission to silence the situation however necessary."

Khan had a question, but given Screaming Eagles intro he'd bite his tongue for now and ask the Sarge later on. He was curious what kind of numbers they should expect. With Pirates theres never any telling especially on a ship that size, could be a skeleton crew could be more. Pirates had a erie way of masking their numbers. He had already been demoted no reason to start it off with a shot in the foot.

Fox sat quietly to himself paying attention to every little bit of information that he could use in this mission. Not letting his attention span get the best of him. Then he stood up in his chair right after the briefing. And got ready to ask a question.

Does he know that we will be coming after him or does stealth play a role in this?

"Sir, Have they ever engaged Colonial Marines before now?"
Looking at one of the senior members of the unit McCoy cleared his throat, "At this time Corporal Jones, they have not encountered the Marines, however due to Durston's prior experience as a Marine Officer you can bet your buckles they are well aware of our standard tactics. I hope that answers your question son."

He turned and indicated the Marine standing up near the back of the theatre, "Yes soldier, speak up."
Does he know that we will be coming after him or does stealth play a role in this?
"Current intel suggests that he is aware of someone investigating him, but not as to who is doing the snooping."

Simovic sat there an listened to the briefing, he was thankful that there was no mention of Xenomorphs in the Captains speech, his nerves couldn't take any more of that shit.

He'd come up against Pirates before, on his first op, they had numbers but were poorly trained, however with an ex-colonial marine leading this bunch it would be tougher.

"Capitan McCoy, are we going to attack the base on foot or are we travelling in armour? Also once it's located can we expect any artillery support?"

"What needs to be done to fortify the colony and how are we trying to find the pirate base?", Bojan asked

Dirk listened to the briefing. He waited to see if anyone asked what he wanted to know. When they didn't he stood up " Sir. You said that they have launched a series of raids on the planet. What type of raids were they? I mean were they quick in and out or did they take thier time?"

Eric felt very nervous, knowing that his episode on the last mission had something to do with the breaking of orders they were talking about. He didn't have any specific questions, just general distaste towards the pirate scum. So he sat back and listened to the other marines ask their questions.

Once again Con sat, half listening to a briefing that he didnt really care about. how hard is to shoot stuff he thought to himself, we arent cops, were marines
Con knew not say stuff like that out loud, that army had millions of conduct codes that every uptight officer loved quoting and Con quite fancied his promotion to sgt and didnt want it taken away.
Sliding out his knife from its boot sheath Con began throwing it, letting it spin before he caught it again by the handle, at least this passes the time in these briefings

(OOC: Just in case, i actually did read the briefing and stuff, im just RP my chars lack of caring.)

Sean listened closely. Like always during a formal briefing he shut up and just let the bosses do the talk. Of course he had thoughts and questions of his own, but usually they were solved later on. Patiently Sean knocked his botts together, under his chair. He brushed over his cheek and looked up to captain McCoy who was filling them in on the details of their mission.
It was Sean'S first mission with the Easy Eights since, different then his comrades from basic training, he was assigned to a Forward Support Unit for three weeks. But now he was where he should be...

"Capitan McCoy, are we going to attack the base on foot or are we traveling in armour? Also once it's located can we expect any artillery support?"
McCoy turned to look at one asking the question, he reflected on the man’s file, having and photographic memory was probably one of the reason’s he had reason through the ranks. Dugan was a man who was eager to see justice served and he was a man fairly knowledgeable in the area of weapons. “Lance Corporal Dugan, once we have assessed the area with an advance recon of the area we will see to it that we have the exact amount of support needed for the mission. Until then we will be going on the assumption we will be attacking the base with the APCs and at least two squads of marines on foot.â€

[quote]“Our most recent information as supplied from the colony has stated that they have used extreme force in the past, destroying several homes and business with blasts from heavy artillery. At this point fearing reprisal and further destruction the citizens have taken to sending an emissary to the pirates with full privileges to meet their demands. They have been providing the pirates with credits, food, and the occasional female and male companionship. So I would assume their raids have been rather different each time. Does this answer your question sufficiently Pvt. Collins?â€

"Yeah sir I have a question" Con said catching his knife and looking up "this raiding party, how well are they armed and how well are they trained? I've heard tell of raiding partys just like these guys, with military class armour and weapons and training to rival what us marines get, and those sort of people I would not want to meet without a full scale army behind me"

At the mention of pirates, Jonsson's dark eyes went livid, and his jaw muscles visibly tightened, stretching the scarred skin of his cheeks. Sitting up a bit straigher, he listened intently. At a break in the information, he adressed the officer.

"Sir, are these 'Fangs of Discord' a single clan of pirates? Or is this possibly an alliance of a few smaller forces?"
