i recommend the following two you-tube videos to get an in-depth experience of the game, the game-mechanics and the atmosphere

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvy9fNHbdSI

it thrilled me and i am looking forward to get an aliens rpg pen and paper session going.

Juan could we adapt it for game play here?

@PaleRider
strictly technicaly speaking, yes, we could do, BUT

1) i really don't know anything about legal issues/implications/consequences (are we allowed to use a licensed rule-set?). I don't want to be sued, nobody does

2) it would all boil down to "a lot more of game-master-related workload" -> character creation, managing character sheets, xp, char development, dice rolling in game, certain adaptions of the rule-set to our "forum environment"

3) In my opinion, our fine game here lives from our very fine players, who do produce a lot of "quality postings", imo there is no need to throw a bunch of "rules" at them. The only advantage, that i would have seen, would have been a "simple rule-set for handling fights, shootings, hostile encounters". But this is the part of the new aliens rpg, which i really do not like at all. For example, take their concept of amunition handling: a character carries a certain ammount of "loads" for a weapon. if you have to shoot, you throw dices against your skill level with say firearms, and either you succeed, which means you hit your target, inflicts damage of course, but do not consume your "load", or not, which means, your char fires ALL of the mag-rounds, does not hit the target and consumes the whole "load". Sure, we could alter that, but see point 2 "a lot game-master workload"

i am open for discussions of course, i really don't know if the majority of your players do want a new kind of "rule-set".

IMO
what we need is a simple and standard way of handling hostile encounters.

Right now I handle hostile encounters and most anything with a classic D&D dice system. I try to be fair and consistent. For example skills give you a bonus to your dice roll. But it's still somewhat loose. I would like to come up with a clear rule set that is simple enough for me to handle but more consistent than what I do now.

The only thing stopping me from doing this is that I haven't done it yet. I have made numerous combat systems for many hundreds of board games, role playing games, and so on. If you just message me a few times and put pressure on me, I will come up with a fair and simple rule system.

I think I'm gonna write up some goals that we can strive for this year. We have made great progress in 2019 and I want to keep pushing forward instead of resting on our laurels. (This in addition to writing the old campaigns into novels, editing the current novel, creating the audiobook, creating the board game based on the novels, all while working full time. Yes I'm pretty much a crazy person lol)

We had a fairly simple rule settings back in 2006-08.
