"And by the way," he said to everyone present, "You can call me Red."
"Well, erm Red I have never been to the red planet." Kurosaki smiled slightly at his atrocious pun.
So the man was once a part of the unit, and he had served in a place called Andromeda. Interesting.

Morse accomplished pulling every piece of the weapon apart. There were a very large number of pieces scattered all over his tray. He grabbed a rag and started to wipe down all of the pieces as they were. He got the last bit of what the new person there had said. He was amazed that the platoon seemed to go through people at such an awkward rate. Seemed like they should just disband the unit and scatter them.

”Somethin’ what helps ya think.” Morse answered in regards to the question set out by the new person.

He noticed more of the new people, but he couldn’t say he remembered them. That wasn’t his problem or place right now. He didn’t remember people hardly at all as it was, so he wasn’t going to add people to the list of people he’d met and didn’t know. He took a drink from the canteen to allow some more of the deep burn to go as he continued to wipe down the weapon.

Sam smiled a bit at Rednus' comment and replied; "Oh, it's just an old classic that someone's always palying on New Kingston...it's called 'Three Little Birds'."

Sam started humming to herself again and as she set aside her freshly assembled M41; she pulled out her sidearm, ejected the clip and began dissassembling it for cleaning as well.

The effects of hypersleep still had a hold of Obi, raising his brew mug to his lips he took a sip of the too hot coffee and felt its heat radiate out. The caffeine waking him up with each hit to his system. Putting his mug back down Obi turned his attention to the scattering of parts in front of him that once completed made one of the deadliest combat rifles ever created. Picking up the barrel assembly Obi methodically began to wipe it over, watching as the alcohol evaporated as it was applied. Holding the barrel up to the light, he closed one eye as he looked down its length. Very little grime could be seen, but nothing a quick pull through couldn't fix. Putting the grimy cloth down, Obi rummaged through his cleaning kit to find a clean swab. Unable to, he looked over at the other marine with the M41 Echo stripped down in front of him.
"Excuse me Morse, have you got any clean swabs for the barrel pull through?"
Obi asked.

Morse looked up when he heard his name. He didn’t quite hear the words at first, instead he heard. ”Hey Morse, you should have another drink.” He formed his snide smile, which was commonly found. ”Ya.” He said taking up the canteen. But then what actually was asked came into his mind. His eyes moved towards the locker right near where he was standing. There was a large lineup, but none of them were actually locked. He opened up the closest one without looking at a name. Inside he found a number of things, likely the stuff of one of the sailors. He looked up and down, and quickly found, cotton swabs. ”Looks like it.” He said, grabbing the small cup of them. He tossed them at Obi. And closed the locker. He didn’t actually care if they kept them or not, because he wasn’t likely to come back there ever.

”Looks like it.”
"Cheers, thanks mate." Obi said as he caught the wad of cleaning clothes that Morse tossed in his direction. Removing one from the packet, he inserted it into the eyelet hole on the end of the pull through rod and became to slide it in one end of the barrel and pull it out of the other, inspecting the barrel with each wipe. With one ear listening to the idle chatter amongest the marines, Obi focused on cleaning his weapon. Satisfied that the barrel was cleaning, Obi began to clean the grenade launcher, first put cleaning oil into the work parts, then racking the pump action slide back and forth quickly to work the oil in and fully lubricate the work parts.

"Hey Morse, have you any idea what they have planned for us?" Obi asked not looking up as he continued to work on his rifle.

Morse didn't wait hardly even a second before he answered. Though the missions they would do sometimes changed, there were a few factors that typically were constant. "I figure." He said taking a drink from the canteen. "At' ems' higher ups what are the powers that be, are wishin' and wantin' to send us on a fun run down to a hell rock, whats gonna be way too far fer us to get any help, with an assignment so difficult, we couldn't complete it even if we had days in eights and an army." They still had not completed a mission as was asked of them even to that day, so he had very little reason to believe they'd do it again. He almost started spitting out the portion where some of them don't come back, but he figured he'd leave it out do to the touchy nature some of them had acquired over time.

An hour passed with the Eights having cleaned their weapons and checked them into the armory. They were then called into the briefing, the Captain standing at the front with the Lieutenant off to one side, his hat off and tucked in his arm.

"Listen up Eights." the Captain called out amongst the chatter. "Got some good news. We're going to Earth for a few days of leave."

There were immediately some cheers and whistles. R&R was badly needed in this unit.

"But before we do," the Captain said smiling at them. "we'll be going back to Parris Island to look at some new recruits for the Eights."

The groans were audible, but some stood proud. Parris Island was firmly entrenched in each Marine's memory as where his second self was formed.

"There is one last piece of bad news. We'll be losing our medic." the Captain said, looking at Quinn who himself looked like he was just punched in the gut. "The Corps thinks you'll do better as a doctor treating veterans here. You'll be going to Annapolis."

Sixtus sat back in his chair as the information sank in.

"So get your gear packed and report to the Moonbase commander. Everyone else, get all ordnance stowed and locked, shower up and get food in you. I want you to look good for when we get dirtside. Dismissed."

Obi leaned forward in his seat and placed a hand on the medics' shoulder. "Congrats Doc, looks like you will be fully fledged scab lifter now, fancy letters before you name and all. Though don't think for a minute i'm going to salute you, best you will get is a friendly wave!" Obi said with a lazy grin on his face as he spoke in the medics' ear.

Kurosaki was shocked at the news, both looking at new recruits and Quinn leaving. Kurosaki walked over to Quinn and put his hand on his shoulder.

"It has been an honor serving with you, Quinn."

Kurosaki smiled sadly once then walked over to get his gear stowed.

Hearing of the medic's re-assignment, Rednus began to feel and combination of emotions. The first was regret that he was about to lose a what could have become a good friend. He'd always got on well with the various medics he'd served with, and enjoyed they're unique off-beat and often dark sense of humour. Red figured it was something akin to a mask they wore while the inner turmoil of all the blood and gore they unfortunately had to deal with on a regular basis ate away at them inside. Relief was the next feeling Red experienced, that Quinn would hopefully be off the firing line and out of harms way, away from the shrapnel and lead that had killed so many good medics before him.

He approached Quinn, extended a hand in friendship and wished him well on future combat ops.

After eating another horrid meal that he was constantly told was good for him, Rednus made his way to the showers.
Wondering why he was repeatedly washing ash from his chest, he realised he was still smoking.
Red shrugged and continued enjoying both his shower and cigarette.

Obi leaned back in his chair and ran a hand through his short hair as he called out to the gathered marines. "Are we all required to got down and see the fresh meat or can we submit a leave form and take off for a few days? Anyone know?"

Sam Jack Dunn looked up from his disassembled gear and with his one good eye, met the Captain's gaze. The heavy, disfiguring scarring on the side of his face and the implant in his eye socket on display for all to see, his expression carefully neutral - in fact, he almost looked bored. Sitting in one corner of the room, he listened without comment as their fearless leader outlined exactly what they were going to be doing for the next few days, his hands still moving the rag over the leads that would connect his HMS to his implant as he kept his faze fixed on the Captain.

So, they were losing one of their most veteran troops, and picking up some raw recruits to replace him. He was forced to suppress a disapproving grunt, managing to maintain his noncommittal appearance. Well, there went their medic. He watched as their chances of survival dropped like a rock, and when the rest of the unit cheered about the prospect of some leave, he remained pointedly silent. He had learned in his time with the Easy Eights to keep his opinion to himself, but that didn't mean he had to pretend to like it.

In truth, the thought of a few days idle was a scary prospect for him. All he could remember during the past year was a terrifying blur of running for his life, fighting for his life, and recovering in a Weyland-Yutani hospital after a very nearly successful attempt on his life. He didn't know if he could adapt to a civilian environment, even if it was only for a few days. Especially not with the Eights. Despite what Dugan had said before the mission, the much-vaunted bond between soldiers that was forged in the heat of battle had never formed between Sam Dunn and the rest of the squad. He still didn't want to get close to them.

The last time he'd gotten close to anyone, they'd all died before his eyes...and left him broken for a good few months. Not just physically, either. He waited until the Captain stopped speaking and he was damn sure no-one was paying any attention to him before he let out a long, resigned sigh. He'd just have to spend his leave at the firing range, then. Or maybe showing the new guys the survival tricks he'd had to learn the hard way - not because he cared, but because if they were more prepared, that meant he was less likely to get killed because of them.

He shook his head. Getting soft already, Sam. Didn't Outback Platoon teach you anything? He mentally berated himself, before he shrugged his shoulders and started to re-assemble his head-mounted sight, snapping the parts together and eventually connecting the whole thing to the implant in his eye socket. It hurt like hell for a few seconds, and even he, with his hard-earned fortitude, couldn't help but let out a whimper as a jolt of electricity fired up the connection between his nerves and the wiring in the HMS, grating against still-healing nerves...but really, it was the ghost-pains that hurt the most. The feeling of molecular acid eating into his face, for a terrible second, replayed itself.

He bit down on his lip and fought it down until it was manageable. He then turned to re-assemble his M56D 'Smartgun', hoping like hell no-one had seen his moment of weakness. Eventually, he had his kit repaired, and shouldered it with the ease of someone who knew his gear better than he knew himself, and sauntered out of the room without a glance at the others, heading towards the gym. He didn't want to let this R&R make him soft, so he decided a few brutal sparring matches and some knife drills would help keep him sharp.

Samantha Hall looked over at O'brien and shrugged her shoulders; "I don't know. Hopefully one of them will be a Corpsman now that we've lost Quinn".

The thought that she might have to go into action without someone skilled in first-aid bothered Sam more than a little bit. She did her best to not show this fear though; not wanting the "vets" of the unit to razz her for being a "scaredy-cat".

"Well yes, that would be wonderful, but I don't see why we all have to go down and see them. Why the hell can't they just march into the unit as per normal. Why the effort of taking a field trip?"Obi shook his head in the folly of of the idea.

"I don't know about you Sam, but I am sure quite of a few of us have quite a bit of leave owning."
