Turn 10 - Wave

Post by Nick » Sat Jun 11, 2011 8:30 pm

Unidentified Asteroid, near space trade lane, In vicinity of communications relay
Mission timer: 01.12.58

Lt Ericson got to her feet, her M41 was gone, swallowed by the depth below. Her heart was racing and she felt clammy from pure fear. "I'm ok, I'm ok!" she said to the marines who where checking her out, rather roughly. She clasped after her pistol and felt a slight relief as her gloved hand closed around it.

The door on the other side of the bridge slowly went up into the ceiling, a deep black hole now gaped where the entrance was. "We still have a contact in that corridor, could it be the other marines?" she knew the answer to that question herself. But she said it more or less to comfort herself and the marines around her.

The answer came seconds later when a black spindly creature dashed out of the darkness, followed by several others - In fact it looked like the mouth of a stirred hornets nest.

"Oh shit!" Ericson shouted for the umpteenth time in less than three minutes. "Covering fire!, fall back, fall back!" she shouted while waving with her pistol in the direction of the arc.

She started moving back as the marines started laying death on the swarming creatures. 3rd squad take point, 2nd and 1st cover our retreat!

She rushed back past 3rd squad and waved them on, all while the burps and bursts from pulse rifles and machineguns rattled behind her. She pushed a marine forward, and moved to the side. She was almost at the start of the bridge now when she halted mid step. A chill went down her spine and when she thought she couldn't get more afraid than she already were she saw several of the black skeletal glistening shapes coming rushing at them from the other side as well.

"It's a trap! We're trapped! Back to back! We take our stand here! Don't let any of these fuckers get through or we are dead! Watch out, over there!" Ericson screamed while she furiuosly pumped rounds into the nearest black shape charging at them - The pistol jumping in her hand, muzzle flashes of light shimmering in the black exoskeletal armor that evolution had shaped into the perfect assassin over billions of years.

When the swarm started pouring out from the opening, Quinn barked over the comm "Open fire!"

The area around him rattled with the muffled reports of pulse rifles. Quinn raised his weapon a little and fired a grenade into the seething mass.

"First squad, fire grenades! Second, mop up!" he said, racking another grenade into the chamber.

"GAME ON"Rascal roared, slamming his pulse rifle into his shoulder as he took aim at the swarm rushing towards the marines. Several grenade rounds popped off, causing the bridge to quake, but his aim was true, his rounds slapping into several of the demons' hides; yet no matter how many of the shots struck home, it didn't seem to stem the flood any more. They were in some real shit now.

Samantha Hall felt her training reflexes take over and she quickly and calmly took aim and fired a single, short, controlled burst at an alien and then switched targets and did the same thing to a second alien.

About the same time she heard Quinn's order come over the com and she paused, adjusted her grip to engage the grenade launcher, took aim and let fly with one of the 30mm rounds; hoping to do a fair bit of damage to the mass of aliens coming out of the door on the other side of the bridge...

Fall back and now hold. Jesus lady make up your mind. Obi thought sardonically as he squeezed the trigger and saw another target drop as his rounds found their mark. Something had replaced the fear in Obi, while it was still there niggling away at the back of his mind. It had been pushed aside by a more deadlier side of him. His pulse rifle was now a natural extension of his body. Firing in precise bursts, where he pointed it, his rounds hit with devestating effect. The working part of the rifle flew back and the magzine counter hit 00. In one smooth motion Obi let the empty mag drop clear from the body of the weapon while his non master hand reached down into his ammo pouch and slam a fresh one home. Releasing the bolt forward and actioning the weapon Obi brought it up and re engaged. The whole drill had taken less than eight seconds to complete. Another one of those creatures filled his sight picture as he brought the rifle to bear...

At the sight of the creatures coming out from his squad's side of the bridge, Duncan flicked the safety switch on his pulse rifle to burst. Two squads on that side, two marines on this side. Should've stayed in Yuma. He began opening up on the aliens on his side.

"Watch out! The bastards can still try to split us up on the bridge!" he shouted into his comm as took his own advice.

As the realization that they were surrounded by the creatures and about to be overrun sank in Dirk almost smiled. He always knew that he would die out here, and it seemed that it might be now. Shaking the morbid thoughts from his mind Dirk fired his M-41A at the oncoming hoard.

"Short controlled bursts, Don't waste your ammo." Dirk said over the comm to no one particular
