Duncan refocuses his aim, pissed off at his performance. The marine aims his gun again, adjusting based on his last shots. He fires on the pursuers, hoping to put them down for good.

Dirk watched with satisfaction as the two pursuing Xenos bust apart under the withering fire that Lt Quinn was sending through the air. Once again raising his binoculars he scanned the area for movement, even though he knew that if there were two of the creatures there would be a whole lot more.

"If we're going to get answers we have to get that woman inside the perimeter. I'm going to take second and grab her, we're in position."
<Tag Lt Quinn>

"Alright second, on me. Lets go grab the civi. On the run. I don't want her friends to show up before we get back." Dirk said as he climbed off the wall and started to run towards the running figure.
<Tag Second Squad>

"Over here! Move it!" Dirk yelled as he ran towards the woman.

The atmosphere hit him all at once. His eyes stung and teared up as he hacked and coughed out the foul smelling and painful air. As he did he could feel the familiar sensation of unconsciousness start to wash over him. He knew that if he didn't get fresh air soon he would pass out and be of no use to anyone.

Reaching quickly for the pouch on his side Dirk ripped the rebreather it's holster and quickly put it over his face. Breathing in and out raggedly, but deeply his head started to clear. Shaking off the affects as best as he could he kept going towards the running woman, at a slower pace.

"Get your rebreathers on and check the seals. I almost went down because I forgot." He rasped.

Colson was running alongside Morse when spots started dancing infront of his eyes and his knees started to feel weak.

What the? he thought to himself, it then occurred to him, the atmo was not a good one for exerting yourself in. Snatching at his holdall he pull out the re-breather and quickly put it on. Hopping the spots would clear in time.

Morse, new guy, get your masks on. Chances are that Morse would notice and react in time but the new guy had just got here and might not recognise the warning signs.

Samantha felt pretty useless where she was on the wall next to Duncan; her Pulse Rifle didn't have the range to do any real good from up here and Giosso was operating the remote gun turrets. "Duncan; Giosso; keep up the good work and maintain your positions; I'm going to go give 1st a hand"; she said.

With that; she moved down off the wall; tapping on her helmet comm to tell Dirk she was coming in to lend 1st Squad a hand and came up on the flank of Morse's squad; moving to a postion on the bitter Marine's left. "I'm serving no purpose up on the wall there Morse; figured you could use another rifle out here on the line"; she said while keeping her rilfe tucked into her shoulder and keeping her sense on the alert to the front and sides of the line she just joined.

((OOC: I’m in the same boat as Whiskey. I just assumed they had them on the whole time, and Eyeball was never told, though he would have been prior to being sent to this planet.))

It seemed some of the others were having trouble with breathing. Part of that was why Morse thought they had no real business being on that planet. You couldn’t leave marines stationed somewhere that they had to have a breather on for three months, and then expect them to fight with any form of effectiveness.

Somehow it took Morse back to the problem of them being there. Sure there was a Xenomorph pocket there. But they were apparently everywhere, and this was easily the least populated area that their platoon had ever encountered them. And just given that fact, Morse did not see a reason why a platoon who would be sent alone to deal with an issue spanning a world of a million, would be here to look at a planet with a population in the hundreds, especially for three months.

But he’d never taken his breather off. Morse did not like dabbling in the chances of passing out. He had a vested interest in being alive and so he never did it. After three months of being on a world like that, it was ridiculous to think some were even doing that.

Morse saw Sam coming up with them. Since they were on base the teams did not particularly matter. If they were all outside then it would, but for the moment they were doing a very basic rescue. He said nothing and just kept on running forward.

”Hurry the fuck up!” Morse said still moving forward, but now he started moving to the left a little bit, and he held his smartgun down and ready to fire.

On the base you are inside an enclosed environment. Also Rebreathers are only needed for extended forays!

eyeball grabbed his rebreather and slammed it into place running through the safety checks as he sealed it.
he sucked down clean lung fulls of air as he ran to stay with the squad, "great first impression, forget the basics " he muttered to himself "am i a noob or what"
"All sealed and good to go" he reported.

Dirk heard Sam say she was moving in. Duncan, keep us covered and call out any incoming. Coordinate with the snake fighter to give close air support as needed. Sam, get to my position and remember your damn rebreather. I'm half blind and I want your eyes on point."

Despite the situation; Sam couldn't help but crack a smile at Pitt's comment. She had her re-breather on and it made her like the senior NCO even more whenever he did something to remind her that he was still a regular joe capable of making a basic mistake; just like her. "Roger that Top; I got it on and am happy to be your guide dog"; she said in a bit of a teasing tone.

Suddenly she remembered something; "Crap...I forgot about Obi..."; clicking her comms to her squad channel; she called out; "Obi; Take up a position on the wall near Duncan and Giosso. While they're concentrating on their specific zones; keep an eye out for any movements on the other sides of the base; in case the bugs get crafty." She felt a bit guilty; since she probably should have stayed behind and been the one to do what she had just asked O'brien to do; but as the Aussie marine had been in longer than her and had certainly seen more action; she felt weird about giving him orders.

From his position on the wall, Obi watched as the weapons systems opened fire. While he was a fair shot with an M41 his rifle was only fitted with standard iron sights, a bit to far to engage the targets that were presenting at the moment. Obi squinted his eyes to focus on the xenomorphs and watched with satisfaction as the weapon fire was effective, he, however also noted that the women never stopped running towards the FB. I wouldn't stop running either if those things were chasing me. Fuck being taken alive by them. Obi thought as he watched and cheered as the first creature was taken down.
"Obi; Take up a position on the wall near Duncan and Giosso. While they're concentrating on their specific zones; keep an eye out for any movements on the other sides of the base; in case the bugs get crafty."
"Roger, I am Oscar Mike, out." Obi said briefly into his comm and moved off at a jog around the interior perimeter of the FB. While the marines at sensor and sentry gun units to cover all avenues of approach to the FB, nothing could fool the good old Mark One Human Eyeball. As he moved quickly, Obi wished the women being chased and was glad that if it turned out badly he would not have to watch it happen. Reaching his assigned position, Obi looked out with is rifle resting on top of the breastworks. By doing this he would be able to lean into it and give him a more stable firing position if he needed to go with full automatic suppression fire.

More weapons fire sounded and Obi listened the the chatter on his comm to follow the battle. Sam was moving out to assist Dirk and Obi found himself nodding. Sam was a good marine and Obi was pleased to be in her squad. At times though, he thought that Sam had reservations with giving him orders, however Obi didn't know why. He was happy as his position as a marine and as a communication specialist, he had no ambition for leadership. Sam was a motivated marine and leader and Obi would assist her to the best of his ability. More comm chatter came alive and Obi continued his vigilant watch on the ground, his left hand tapping at the side of his rifle barrel as he watched and waited.

Giosso's screen suddenly lit up with chatter as a large number of blips suddenly came into range. The sound was loud and clear that something was coming and coming in fast.

Charging forward, Morse wanted increasingly for the woman to hurry up. It was taking her a while to cross the cleared out expanse, which was not surprising as it was a rather long stretch to give them the best vantage points. Still he did not want to be running around outside the walls too long with what they had seen. Because it had just been the two, and that could quickly be turned into more in their experience.

Morse was running straight ahead, when suddenly in his eyepiece, the targeting computer linked up with numerous targets. The M56 Smartgun didn’t hesitate a second to shift towards the first one. But there were others. Morse had a range of a thousand yards on the weapon, and it tracked nearly on the same signals as the motion tracker.

Slowing down, Morse looked the signals over. He could not tell what they were. ”Wo, hold up!” Morse ordered. Though Dirk was technically in charge, he was a squad lead, and he’d have said that even if he wasn’t. ”I got a fuck ton a signals what just showed up.” Morse announced.

He could not make out what it was in those seconds, and tapped his headset. ”Someone on wall.” Morse called. ”Any ya’ll see some shit out there whats fer shootin’?” Morse asked, mainly referring to any targets. He knew Duncan was on there, and there were the tech specialists that might get the same thing.

Morse looked over to Dirk. ”Want we should lay down suppression?” He asked, still not sure what they were looking at, but knowing that where they were it likely wasn’t good.

Skidding to a halt along side Morse Coslon kicked up a spray of mud as he dropped to a knee and raised his weapon.
”I got a fuck ton a signals what just showed up.” Morse announced.
Breathing heavily, lungs burning from the atmo and charcoal flavour of his re-breather Colson took a moment to catch his breath and scanned ahead of them.

"Just how busy are we talking here Morse?" asked Colson still attempting to make out what was ahead of them. All he could make out at the moment was the woman still running towards them and the two xeno's behind her.

Dirk was still running forward, with Sam's help, when Morse's voice came over the comm. He listened to the tone of the man's voice as he called out the oncoming targets. He never minced words or exaggerated when it came to combat. If he said a fuck ton was coming, then It was.

It now looked like hitting those two big Xenos might have been a mistake. It bought the WY woman a few more moments head start, but it also stirred up a whole nest of the things. It did answer one of the question on everyone's mind about the crab like Xenos being here with no sign of the larger ones. They were here and now they were attacking in force. He had lead the men out here with the intent of grabbing the WY woman and getting back into the fire base before any other of the creatures made their way to them, he wasn't sure if that was even possible now.

Judging from her distance if they started falling back she should be able to get to them in time for the Marines to cover her and get her inside. If she didn't run hard then she would be over run. Either way he wasn't willing to risk the lives of these men and women fop one life.

"Hold up Marines." Dirk said to the advancing squad. He knew it wouldn't be a popular decision, but it was his call until the LT came in on this." Fall back to the fire base. Lay down suppressing fire on all advancing targets as best you can. We'll give her every chance but i'm not rolling the dice with your lives."
<Tag Advancing Marines>

"Quinn, this is Pitt. We have multiple incoming. The civi is on her way but still not under our control. I have ordered the men to fall back to the fire base while giving cover fire, unless you want us top advance. Request fire mission from the APC the autoturrets and the Snakefighter. Also request you link into the motion trackers and coordinate the strike."
<Tag Quinn>

"We are falling back. We'll cover you but you have to run faster. Don't give up, our base is close. You can make it." Dirk yelled to the WY woman as loud as he could."
<Tag woman>

"Good luck" he said under his breath.
