Mission 3 Turn 11: Incoming

Post by Corporal Hicks » Sat Feb 08, 2020 5:29 pm

Quinn took aim on the synthetic as it got back to its feet. His first shot was embarrassingly off the mark; his lack of training on the sniper rifle was showing. The synthetic raised its rifle and fired a shot back at him. The weaker security rifle ricocheted off of his helmet and struck the wall a couple feet in front of Sokolova. This gave Quinn one second to take another shot, and he did. The android’s head exploded as the sniper round passed through it with incredible velocity. Sokolova saw no target as she peered down the hallway, Quinn had done the job.

Sergeant Perez’s smartgun had become finicky having gone weeks in the jungle without its usual maintenance. As he fiddled with the systems, it came back online.
"You" Paulson turned to the other person in a lab coat, "you had better speak English and you had better speak fast, xenomorph? big, fast, deadly, acid for blood, kills everything?" Paulson questioned "short answers are fine!"
<tag scientist>
"how many and where?"
"and why the aggressive synthetics they usually protect not kill humans?"
The other scientist looked dumbfounded for another few seconds before he managed to reply. “Xenomorph, yes. Acid blood, yes. Four xenomorphs. Please do not kill me! The androids are here to control us, I hate them!” The man burst into tears.

“I think those people need a medic,” said Petty Officer Singh as he moved forward. “Clearing the right side, move up!” Singh and the other two Navy guys moved up and to the right to make sure the robots were dead. Quinn left the front to check on the civilians.

As other Marines moved up to secure the left, they heard the shrieks that haunted many of their dreams. Paulson's motion tracker lit up with signals.
Running down the hallway toward them were the two scientists that fled a minute earlier. Overtaking them, running on the walls, were two xenomorphs. It was going to be a tough shot, but if it wasn’t taken the scientists were goners for sure.

Those high-pitched hissing screams, the nails on the blackboard of her dreams, jolted Oksana out of her fugue, galvanizing her right up off the deck. Without a second's thought, she pushed to the front and screamed herself,"Brian! Katie! RUN!!"

Hands pulled her back to safety but she fought them off. She refused to cower behind the Marines and let the fate of her lab mates, her fellow survivors, go unwitnessed by one of their own. She clawed to get free and kept her eyes glued on the horror unfolding in front of her, fear crushing the air out of her and yet ... hope and despair slashing her throat like razors, she could still scream.

"RUUUUUUNNNNNNN!!!"

"confirmed Xenomorphs from second civilian probablly four in number, synthetics and Xeno's definitely hostile" Paulson reported with an hint of sarcasm as if the last bit of information really wasn't needed.
"keep your hands where i can see them and stay calm help is on the way" Paulson said to the two civilian scientists, just then the motion tracker pinged, he looked down and called out the range and direction, "contacts two strong, two weak 50 m closing fast, 45 m, 40m," the range tumbled quickly and the two pairs of signals began too merge.
while concentrating on the motion tracker he tried to make sense of the Russian lady but she was now making even less sense than she had before.
he looked up and saw two more people in white coats screaming and running away from shadows on the walls, only they weren't shadows and Paulson realized that these were the xenomorphs that people had been telling him about. he nearly dropped his pistol as a wave of fear came over him they where moving fast and along the walls but he still had no clear shot.
ahead of him he saw marines snap into action and begin to take aim, Alien they might be but any second now they where going to receive light armour piercing marine technology at high velocity nothing living could stand up to the fire power that was about to be nleashed, atleast thats what he hoped.
"35meters" he called.

Perez's mind was fully focused on the task of bringing the smartgun tracking system up and running again, so he missed the most of the happy reunion of the russians and the slaughter of the lab personell by those damned androids. Instead, his fingers flickered over every crucial part of his sweetheart, that fooled him so badly at the critical moment ...

"Honey, i know, i was not as good to you, as you would have needed it for quite a while, BUT I AM MISSING the necessary equipment and nevertheless did everything, that was possible. I oiled you, cleaned you, disassembled you and put you back together. Don't be so cruel to me and let my buddies and me down. We ... I ... NEED YOU RIGHT NOW."

... he whispered to his smartgun. And ... it worked. The tracking system got online again, just in time for the party.

Paulson called out incoming Xenomorphs and Perez moved up to him. Was there a slight shuddering on the man? Perez could not blame Paulson, Xenos are horrible creatures to face, even now they scared the utter piss out of him, having faced them so many times.

"Paulson, relax, call 'em, we wax 'em".
<Tag Paulson>

He homed on the incoming xenomorph and let the smartgun do its job, locking in on the right one. Then he pulled the trigger and all hell broke loose ...

It was in fact Xenomorphs. The mission had just taken an additional turn that would leave them in the grips of an unknowable pain and misery. There would have to be an intense follow up to the encounter. They'd have to go through every log, every shred of data, everything that could lead them to know how the xenomorphs got there and if there were more. And worse still to ensure that none of them escaped. There was at that moment in time no particularly easy way off of the world, and if there was a colony out in the jungle somewhere... well it wouldn't have been the first time Morse had experienced it, but it was not one he was eager to repeat.

Morse heard the priming of the M56 Smartgun in the hands of Perez, and he therefore lowered his own rifle slightly.

Their ammunition situation was as dire as the rest of it, and though Morse could exercise the fire, he did not want to waste ammunition on a Xenomorph that the Smartgun would just as well shred.

"Drop em!" Morse ordered, bringing his own rifle back up.

He watched the explosive balls of the M56 Smartgun race out, and took note of their target. Morse adjusted to take aim at the second.

With his finger shifting to the trigger, Morse sent his own bursts raging towards the Xenomorphs. Not waiting to assume risk that would just stack up each second one of them was alive.

Order's given, let's ROCK!

To be honest, Dmitri liked this part of the job. And truth to tell, this wasn't at all inconsistent with his prior career as an exobiologist who studied and preserved alien life forms. Back then, he was all about learning new things from the new creatures, looking for insights to the sheer diversity and tenacity of life in the Universe. He had fought tooth and nail to preserve such creatures and had fought harder to keep them from being exploited or wiped out.

But these xenos?

Yeah, no.

Not when these fuckers had taken (or tried to take) everything important in his life away from him. No, they were going to have to pay for that. His pulse pounding in time with the bursts from his rifle, Dmitri took aim for the shiny black horrors and tried pumping them as full of lead as fast as possible. He heard Oksana screaming, realized she was urging two white coats on toward safety, and after that, there was no more time to think. If it wore white, it didn't get fired upon. Anything else? Fair game!

Dmitri dropped right into the zone and became nothing but the medium for his eyes and trigger finger, dealing out death as fast as he could deliver it.

"Jesus," Rai Navarro swore and lunged for Oksana to drag her back behind the line. He caught her by a lab-coated shoulder and pulled hard. "Come on, you're blocking the way!"

He'd known her long enough to phrase it so she'd listen: at times like these, she didn't give a damn about herself but instead cared more about her lab crew. And right now? If she didn't get the hell out of the way, Brian and Katie would have no room to get past the Marines to safety.

"Come on! Let 'em do their job!"

Oksana was too caught up in the momnent to really hear what Navarro was saying. Her focus was on Katie, who was frontmost and reaching frantically for Oksana's outstretched hand. Three feet, two feet ... one ....

After having turned back from the brief slaughter of the androids nearby, Tanya takes a look at what's going on behind her, hearing some familiar words from both the scientists and the orders being barked out. Seeing as she had a little time to listen, her mind only caught a few words that were being said other than orders, namely "acid" and "xeno". As she turned from where the Navy had secured to look toward where everyone else was, she squinted a moment, unfamiliar with what she saw ahead of her, other than the fact there was something obviously not human running their way.

"Chto za chert?" She asked in a surprised voice before taking up her rifle into firing position, making sure to stand in the line of marines. "First the things in the jungle, now more native life..." she murmured, not quite comprehending what she was actually facing.

Seeing the remaining scientists running their way, she only took aim at the shadowy forms that were quickly approaching. Being reminded of their limited ammunition situation, she took careful aim before firing a burst or two in the direction of the creatures.

Paulsons main weapon was no use in the current situation , even if he had been on point the civilians in the way would have probably prevented the use of his flamer. instead he called out the ranges as they dropped and man were they going down fast , soon it would be close combat and that was not something in the marines favor. he kept looking for more signals the scientist had said four but so for only two had made an appearance.
<roll motion detector>
the smart gun belched into life after what sounded like a prayer and bullets spewed down range, other marines took aim at the second shadow and more gunshots rang out, maybe these creatures would not get so close after all.

Morse opened fire on the left xenomorph, the rounds tearing through its chitinous armor. Dimitri added his fire to the left xenomorph, another good shot and the creature came apart. The hallway was too crowded for Sokolova to get a shot. The scientist, Katie, grabbed Oksana’s hand and was pulled behind the front line of soldiers.

Juan Perez targeted the right-hand xenomorph with his smartgun, but the male scientist was directly in the way. He swore and tried to move but he couldn’t get more than a couple bullets past him. He simply didn’t have an angle, and the smartgun’s simple computer prevented him from shooting the civilian.

The xenomorph pounced on the scientist, Brian Preston. Its jaws crunched down on the man’s head, his screams audible over the gunfire.

Sixtus had pulled back to shepherd the civilians when he heard the shouted warning.

Xeno.

His mind flashed to curving black chitin and hissing. Forcibly putting that to the side, he poked his head to the corridor to keep tabs on anybody who would need medical aid. The pulse rifles and smartguns chattered, forcing the advanced hearing protection to kick in.

There was no good angle on the second xeno, and it pounced on its prey. The man screamed, which meant he was still alive.

Before he even thought, Sixtus charged out from behind the line, drawing his sidearm as he moved. Moving without the roar most Marines would elicit, he moved to bodycheck the xeno off the screaming scientist. Upon contact, he pressed the barrel of his M4A3 sidearm, and proceeded to empty the magazine into the alien.

Not having seen an opening to go after the left xeno, Sokolova then found a better position and aimed at the one that had the screaming scientist in its maw, though she noticed Quinn run out into the fray.

"Hey! What are you doing!?" She yells his way, watching him go right toward the shadowy danger.

《Tag Quinn》

Not taking any chances, she ends up firing at the remaining creature, hoping to lay the beast flat before Quinn can manage to go in too deep. Shooting a controlled burst, a few shells fall to the ground in rapid succession.

The incessant alarm was just another irritation but the fact that Erikson had released the scientists and the specimens was what really annoyed Gibson at that precise moment. Gibson could see the unnamed soldiers and the rapidly changing situation in the front hallway, but he realised that he would have to let that play itself out before he took further steps.

Looking at his remaining employee he attempted to reassure him.

"Mr Terry, I can assure you that you are perfectly safe here. Unfortunately for Mr Ericson I am going to have to terminate his employment effective immediately. His severance package shall be severely reduced!"

Samantha Hall had been in a state of shock upon seeing her old friend Oksana come racing around the corner with several other scientists, then a brief reunion with Dmitri, then xenomorphs....the whole thing had happened so fast, yet she had been caught completely flat-footed....

She raised her Pulse Rifle to her shoulder to take aim, then had to break off when Quinn went hand-to-hand with it and she swore in frustration. She remembered the information form the scientist that there were FOUR xenomorphs; so there were two more beyond the one that had been pulped and the one that Quinn was engaging....

Fearing the two unseen might use this distraction to ambush them all, she spun a slow circle, looking up, down and all along the walls as she called out; "Mark! Paulson! Dere's two more of de monsters out dere....you got any'ting on de trackers?!!"
