Turn 5: Catwalks and Crawlspaces (Marines)

Post by Corporal Hicks » Mon Apr 27, 2020 1:05 am

First Squad opened fire at Morse’s command. Morse’s shot was well aimed, and the terrorist fell backward behind his cover. The third hostile returned fire on the advancing unit. Police Captain Vo took a few rounds in his bullet-proof vest that knocked him down and gave him some serious welts. Police Officer Cole Wyatt was not as lucky; he took a round in the groin and went down hard.

Poole sent some rounds downrange but the enemy was behind cover. Sokolova tried to get a shot with the SHARP rifle she had picked up off one of the dead Marines. No luck: the heavy weapon would have to wait. Henniger was the lucky one who hit his target. The final bogey went down and was immediately followed by an explosion as he blew himself up with a grenade. Whoever these black-armored guys were, they meant business. The hallway was cleared of threats.

For those who had their rebreathers out, the air was getting pretty thin. They needed to reactivate life support, NOW! Quinn pulled the injured cop behind the barricade and started to work on him. The rest of them had a different job to do. “I want a targeted breaching charge on both doors, right now!” said Sergeant Major Sykes. “Sarafian, I want you to rig up a demolition charge between the two doors. I want it to blow a third entrance way for us. We will move in through the breaches and take the room by force. Everyone clear? Good!”

“Hall, did you find anything useful? Just click yes or no, don’t give away your position.” he asked through his comms unit.
<Tag Hall, Barayev>

----------

Sergeant Hall and Corporal Barayev made their way down the tunnel until they found a vent right ahead that had light shining through it. Based on its location, it must be a vent that looked into the Life Support Control Room.

Paulson flicked up his motion tracker to make sure the signal from the room was still present and that they did not have any reinforcements in there or coming from the corridor they had just cleared. the other marines hurried to set up the charge, it would open up a new entrance right where no-one would be looking plus hope fully stun and daze whom ever was in there.

Henniger took a moment to swap magazines as he hit the wall starboard of the pressure door. His rebreather chafed him as his sweat pooled around the mouthpiece. He shook his helmeted head sharply to flick some of the irksome sweat away. He blinked hard and slung his pulse rifle. Nonchalantly he pulled a palm full of M40 grenades from his dump pouch and his bypass kit. The grenades in one hand, his electronic hacking kit with its alligator clips in the other.

Heaven or Hell.

Another man was dead, or likely so. Morse had an almost surreal moment where he contemplated how many people were dead by his hand. He did not include animals, or even the xenomorph scourge. That was like counting the number ants or insects one had stepped on. But the number of thinking people that had lived twenty years or more of their life, and made the choices they did, to wind up on the wrong end of Morse's gun was a strange thought. Morse did not feel so terribly about those that fell, he was justified every time, and most often was being shot at first. Still he was left watching another shrinking corpse that wanted to the same to him, all for whatever pay the Corps was still handing to them and for duty to... whatever was left of the Earth's Government.

"First squad on that door." Morse directed, seeing the one to the right. "Form up n' ready to breach. Kill them fuckers dead in there n' get that air on."

Life support failures were always a hazard of fighting in space, and it was not the first time Morse had seen it happen. Fortunately they were much closer to the life support system then they had been last time, he was just hoping that they would have the ability to turn it back on.

Morse readied his weapon for the breach. Since Skyes was ordering them blown apart, he'd wait and smash through first with a hail of fire the moment he was able.

The ComTechs had difficulty hacking through the door locks and they didn’t have time to do so anyway. The breaching charges were places and within two minutes the Marines were all lined up in their positions. Quinn crouched behind the barricades attempting to save the injured police officer, but everyone else was ready to go.

3… 2… 1… BOOM! Both doors exploded and a huge chunk of the wall exploded from the directed breaching charges. The Marines and police moved forward to storm the room by force. Debris and small fires littered the floor of the room as well as a few dead bodies. The layout of the room was a large open ground floor with two sets of stairs leading up to a second floor. The second floor stuck out into the room like an open balcony, although there were some large consoles against the guard rail.

(OOC: I will send you each the specifics of your latent awareness rolls. Don’t worry about the shortage of player posts. I have talked to the less active people and they are all just busy. They will return soon but until then I think we should just keep pushing forward.)

just before entering Paulson swung his flamer up and drew his pistol, this many people in close contact did not advise the use of an area effect weapon.
The charges went off and Paulson hurtled trough the breach with the rest of squad one the concussion and smoke seemed to have done its job as no hail of bullets came at him yet.
Paulson saw movement behind an over turned table near the port stairs and called out the contact to the rest of the breaching teams, the table might provide visual blocking but it would not stop armour piercing rounds from pulse rifles. his own pistol suddenly felt very limiting when being able to shoot through cover could save lives.
<tag everyone>
Paulson swept the room again both visually and with the motion tracker more enemies could be concealed on the upper level out of sight currently, the soft light of the tracker glowed in the residual smoke from the breaching charges but the picture was still clear and easy to read.

Henniger had stowed his frags and bypass kit and when the doors buckled he flew around the left hand frame. He slid to a halt behind a reinforced bannister and swept the room visually.

"Contact front." He said into his mic. There was one merc directly ahead on the ground floor. He saw two more off to the left of the newly breached squad. He glanced up to the second and saw two or three heads bobbing in and out of view on the second floor, and a catwalk directly overhead running the breadth of the ceiling. Two more of the bastards up there making eye contact with him.

"Engaging overhead, two tangos in the open, catwalk structure." He murmured in the com. Overhead tangos were the most immediate threat. He'd get rounds on the two to his immediate left of he lived through the first gunfight.

He threw his pulse rifle to his shoulder and took aim on the two armored mercs above them. He squeezed the trigger in 2-5 round bursts twice per target then swung his weapon to his left to get a bead on the threats closest to him.

The access corridor was dark, dry, and a little tight.

Huh. There's a dirty joke going to waste, right there.

Dmitri noted it and put it out of mind. He followed Sam and maintained radio silence as ordered. Once they gained the ventilation grill, Dmitri put his eye to the slats and saw three enemies on the ground floor, one standing very close to the vent and two across the room from his position. They are all distracted by the breach.

Tapping Sam on the shoulder, he pointed at his eyes with V-ed fingers then at the two hostiles below and closer to the vent. He pointed at Sam's eyes and the remaining targets, and mimed squeezing the trigger.

His meaning was clear: Targets acquired. Shoot now?

Having recovered from the earlier gunshot, albeit with a bit of adrenaline to forget the adrenaline in her leg, with her being in position and prepared to try out her weapon, she looks into the room, getting prepared to do the shot, having spotted one of the targets on the catwalks. Looking to her side toward Sykes for approval to fire the gun, she puts her finger on the trigger and aims, calling to Sykes, "I am ready when you are, Seargant Major... I notice one on the catwalks."

<Tag Sykes>

Her finger having prepared to pull the trigger, she would be pressed to pull the trigger on the target in her sights.

Shaking her head quickly to get her mind off of previous bad moments in narrow areas with little movement/visibility, Sam got back to the here and now. Seeing the targets at about the same time Dmitri tapped her shoulder and pointed them out, she nodded while motioning to the one on the left for him and she'd take the one on the right.

Taking a deep breath, she whispered into her comms; "This is Hall, me n'Dmitri can see 2 hostiles, we're about to take dem down". With a final nod at Dmitri, she took very careful aim with her shotgun at the closer of the two foes and said, "Now" while squeezing the trigger....

Dmitri nodded his affirmative to Sam and , following her example, took the time to aim and shoot. If he could get his shot fired simultaneously with hers, Dmitri reckoned that their double salvo would be like God smiting the unrighteous out of nowhere. If not, he resolved to lay down covering fire to give Sam a chance to retreat, advance, or otherwise do whatever she had planned.

But first ... aim ... then fire.

Morse was rapidly understanding the great purpose of being in First squad again. While there was use for the strong tactical approach of flanking and maneuvering, there was something that needed to catch the eye of the enemy. Morse was not quite as mobile as he once was, with his metal robotic leg responding differently then he had in the majority of his years. Still this made him tough, and he was still a good shot, and fine with giving direction under fire. Battlefields and firefights were loud and chaotic, and if you found yourself in the eye of the enemy, you needed to be able to handle a great deal quickly.

That was where Morse came in. Morse and First Squad were to draw the eye of the enemy, and take the enemy blow for blow. Acting essentially as the pawns on a chess board... not just one but all... something to form a wall the enemy couldn't get passed and to attract the attention while the real attack was made.

Morse was ready for this, and slammed in as soon as the explosion went off. The breach was made and Morse directed first squad in. Morse was not expecting to hit a target so much as get its attention. A piece of cover was just to the right, and Morse hailed fire in where he saw the enemy, and hit the deck. He rained covering fire for all in the center attack and at the flank in hopes it would be enough to get the attention of their adversaries.
