Turn 18: Facehuggers

Post by Corporal Hicks » Sun Sep 06, 2020 10:31 pm

The hideous spider-looking aliens skittered toward the Marines as they opened fire. They were very small targets and many of the Marines’ shots thudded into the deck below. Sykes and Paulson were unable to get a bead on the creatures as they were already on the ramp of the ship. Sergeant Hall opened fire on the little creatures, missing the first. Her shots went home on the second alien which disintegrated from the fire. She missed the third.

Dimitri turned his rifle on the first alien and missed. Henniger and Orozco spattered the deck around the third alien but the target was too small and the room was too dark. The police chief and police sergeant opened fire with their civilian weapons. The Sergeant hit the third facehugger with a shotgun blast which ended its life in a heartbeat.

The first facehugger had evaded all their shots and it leaped through the air at the face of its target, Staff Sergeant Allen Morse.

Being right on the goal line made the tension high. Very high. These were critical moments that any of the marines that had been in the unit for more then a few missions would know full well how dangerous they could be. People got sloppy, people got overly excited, people dropped their guard. There was no real way around it, the thought of getting back to safety after hours or days of high anxiety pain were hard to get around. Almost like being a child that's about to be safe in a a game of tag or baseball. You couldn't get passed it, it was just a basic need.

The bullets were flying in the darkness, the only real light coming from the muzzles of the weapons as they tried to find their mark on the spiders. Morse knew what they were, and they needed to be dropped fast. Morse had seen them move before, but the last time it was in an open field, not in a dark enclosed space. With how they moved Morse assumed that this was a more of their natural habitat, but who could possibly know? At that moment all that mattered was making them dead, and they were proving much harder to kill in a free fire environment.

The sound was intense, they were firing a great deal of what ammunition they still had, and still they weren't splattering them into green puddles. Morse himself fired to absolutely no avail.

One got hit. Good. Another one got splattered. Better.

Just one more... and it was leaping through the air!

Morse did not know exactly its plan, but it was going towards his face. Morse on pure reflex snapped his rifle up to his face to protect it. The bright red ammo counter rested over his eye, blinding him, and he'd smacked his forehead hard with the plastic. He didn't know where the creature was, but his options were so limited that if he had to use his rifle as his shield and beat stick, he would do just that.

Morse may have been large and somewhat brutish, but he was fast. He reacted instantly as the facehugger shot through the air at his face. One advantage of having Morse's degree of experience (upwards of thirty combat drops), was that he had been given plenty of time to consider every possibility over the years, thus allowing him to act instantly without a moment's hesitation.

The little alien slammed against the rifle, which smacked Morse in the face like a fist. It found itself foiled, but it wasn't going to give up so easily. The alien tail shot forward, using whatever sense guided it in place of eyes to find its mark. The tail wrapped firmly around Morse's muscular neck and began to squeeze like a boa constrictor. Fortunately, he had inhaled sharply with anticipation right before it did this. Nevertheless, he felt his airway completely cut off by the squeezing tail. The facehugger's searching fingers were trying to reach around the obstacle and grab him, but all they could do was graze the skin of his face. The creature began to spew acid from its proboscis, melting into the chassis of the pulse rifle instead of melting through its victim's lips and teeth.

Isabel watched in horror as the spidery looking creature launched itself in Morse's direction. She was preparing to assist him when she heard one of them let out it's harsh shrill scream. "Creatures are here" Orozco calls turning her rifle towards where the sound the black monstrosity made.

Henniger's rounds all went wide of their mark. Then the hideous little crab/spider launched itself impossibly fast and high from the deck to latch on to the big staff sergeant.

"Jesus-whatthefuck!" Henniger yelled in revulsion and anger. Before he knew what he was doing he had covered the distance to the embattled NCO and grabbed the nightmarish little thing from behind and wrenched at its flailing and grasping digits. It was strong, impossibly so. It's tail was strangling the staff sergeant and spitting acid blood onto the pulse rifle. Henniger tried to keep his hands clear of this spray as he fought with the alien.

there was nothing Paulson could do currently, Plenty of closer people had run to the mans aid he stayed with Sykes and scanned his motion sensor in case these small ones where just a distraction.

Someone was coming to help Morse, he was thankful for that. But the carnal nature of being attacked in the way he was left one in a sort of violent trance. All he could focus on one was the creature attempting to attach itself to him. It was far stronger then he had imagined they'd be. He'd only ever seen them at a distance or dead, so having one wrap its tail around his neck was a shock to be certain. Morse felt his airway closing up, and knew there was no way his lung were going to squeeze any last drops of oxygen with how tight he was being gripped. It was wrapping so tight he was afraid he'd pass out.

The wretched stink of melting plastic was apparent, and he heard the jolt of fluid coming from the spiders direction. He could feel the rifle in his hand starting to buckle as its structural integrity was degraded in the face of the acidic onslaught. He wanted to hold onto the rifle and grab his pistol, but there was no way he'd keep the creature at bay and get the shot. His only real hope was that someone would either help him get it off of him or that maybe he could overpower the creature, but he did not know either way which would happen.

He gave out a series of gurgles that were the crusted origins of swearwords that he couldn't vocalize. But he felt the rifle melting, so he switched his grip, from the rifle to the creatures legs. He may get burned up in the maneuver, but if the rifle buckled completely Morse would lose, and he couldn't afford that.

He snatched two of the beasts legs in his right hand and squeezed its exoskeleton to keep a strong hold. After that he felt the rifle collapsing with his other hand. Morse did not have a plan, but if he could fling the thing off of him, he may try his luck at a quick draw and go from there.

Henniger felt the NCO let go of his pulse rifle. He released one of his grips on the creature and snatched his steel helmet off where it hung on his webbing. He grabbed it by the chin straps and swung it over the alien with the opening towards his fellow Marine's face. He yanked back on the chin straps to hold it tightly against the pissed off monster and maintained steady tension on the helmet.

"Little help over here." He said loudly through clenched teeth.

Dmitri swept the hangar with his rifle up and his finger poised to fire, looking for the facehugger that got away.

He found it.

"Yebat' v'rot!" he swore and ran to help Morse. Henninger and Morse were already grappling with the facehugger's body. Dmitri got behind Morse for leverage and grabbed the end of the facehugger's tail and started pulling it away from Morse's neck. If they could just get the tail far enough off Morse's neck, he might get a little more air or bloodflow and stay conscious long enough to get free of the nasty fucker.

"Hang on, Morse," he said. "We got you, brother."

Tanya, slightly distracted from fiddling with the comms system, had noticed the face huggers a bit too late to take a shot. Only having seen xenomorph warriors once, in the jungle bunker on Capua, she didn’t particularly recognize the crawling hand-like creatures.

"Chto eto takoye?!" she calls out in her Ukrainian accent, drawing her gun up but only just in time to see it grab Morse. She decided a S.H.A.R.P. harpoon-explosive round would be too much overkill in the current situation. She looked about, after hearing there were more targets.

Isabel scans the surroundings, and seeks out the location of the creatures so that she can engage them with fire from the pulse rifle. As other Marines struggle with Morse, Isabel notices the first of the ominous creatures and fires.
