These are Medals and Commendations that are for something other than service in a campaign. They are based on a very limited knowledge of military awards. If something is wildly wrong please let me know so I can fix it. This post took me almost three hours to write, oh man this stuff really eats up time.
Personal Decorations/Heroism
Medal of Honor. Awarded for extreme heroism and risk of one's life above and beyond the call of duty.
Navy Cross. Awarded for extreme heroism.
Silver Star. Awarded for gallantry in action.
Bronze Star. Awarded for heroic or meritorious achievement or service.
Marine Corps Medal. Awarded for non-combat heroism.
Purple Heart. Awarded for combat injury or death.
Joint Service Achievement Medal. Awarded for meritorious service or achievement in a joint service capacity.
Achievement Medal. Awarded for meritorious service or achievement.
Combat Action Medal. Awarded for active participation in ground or surface combat.

Unit Awards
Presidential Unit Citation. Awarded for gallantry, determination, and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions.
Joint Meritorious Unit Award. Awarded to joint units or units tasked to perform a joint mission.
Unit Commendation. Outstanding heroism in combat or non-combat operations.
Meritorious Unit Commendation. Valorous or meritorious achievement or service in combat or non-combat.

Service and Marksmanship Awards
Prisoner of War Medal. Awarded to prisoners of war.
Good Conduct Medal. Awarded for exemplary behavior, efficiency, and fidelity in active service.
Expeditionary Medal. Awarded for Marines who land on foreign territory, engage in operations against armed opposition, or who operate under circumstances deemed to merit special recognition.
National Defense Service Medal. Awarded for military service during periods of national emergency.
Humanitarian Service Medal. Awarded for meritorious direct participation in a significant military act or operation of a humanitarian nature.
Air and Space Campaign Medal. Awarded for participating in or directly supporting a significant air or space operation.
Drill Instructor Medal. Three years of service as a USCM drill instructor.
Combat Instructor Medal. Awarded for successful completion of a tour as a combat instructor.
Expert Rifleman Medal. Awarded for qualifying as an expert marksman with long guns.
Rifle Marksmanship Medal. Awarded for qualifying as an exceptional marksman with long guns.
Expert Pistol Shot Medal. Awarded for qualifying as an expert marksman with handguns.
Pistol Marksmanship Medal. Awarded for qualifying as an exceptional marksman with handguns.
