The Marines of the "Easy Eight" assembled in the hanger after eating and waited for the Lieutenants Briefing. The hanger aboard the USS Costaguana was spacious yet crammed with equipment. Crates where stacked everywhere, seemingly on random, and two massive UD-4 Cheyenne dropships took up a considerable space of the hanger. Number two was a little older and was of the UD4-H family while the newest was of the UD-4L family. The designation meant that the L version had better sensors and weapon controls systems. The UD4-H would be upgraded as soon as there was time.

The dropships were amongst the most powerful yet versitile weapon a standard USCM Marine platoon carried with them. Used to deliver them on site by carrying the APC inside its belly and then to provide powerful air support. The UD4 could carry six different missile types - High explosive unguided as well as smarter anti-ground and anti-air missiles. In its nose the Cheyenne carried an intimidating 25mm Gatling gun that would rip lighter armored vehicles to threads in just a short burst.

The Marines chattered amongst themselves as the Lieutenant finished her talk with Priest.

Sitting on a crate, Jacob smoked a cigarette. Looking around he saw the other marines talking amongst themselves, he was a tad nervous, as always and the cigarette helped his nerves unwind slightly.

Avoiding other marines until he was finished, he pre-rolled another and stuck it behind his ear. Stepping out into the rest of the crowd he looked about, finding Screaming Eagle

"So, first mission, how're you feeling? Excited - or are you shiting it?"

Grinning he made small talk - making light of the mission to try and put any fresh meat (he still thought of them as such) at ease. He looked around for Con as well, he'd been quite silent before - maybe he needed a friend...

"Well, a mixture of exitment and nerves to be honest. Its always the waiting that gets to me. Once the action begins I tend to even out. How many missions have you been on?"

Eileen strode quickly onto the hangar deck, her mind still running through her conversation with Priest. Suddenly the situation had just got a whole lot more complicated, and she was still churning through the different possibilities. Unfortunately there was no time to stop and think it through in detail.

Blanking any sign of concern from her expression, Eileen stood in front of the assembled marines, "Alright people, things just got a little harder on us. The Andromeda isn't at the rendezvous point," She waited briefly for a reaction, then continued, "Instead we've picked up several emergency beacons transmitting the ICC standard signal. One originates from a nearby planet, designated LV-142, approximately one hour from our current location, the other two in near space to this planet."

"We believe the Andromeda has either crashed or landed on LV-142 and is the source of the planetary signal, and that the two other signals originate from life boats. The Andromeda carries 12 lifeboats in total, however there's no signal to indicate the others have been launched."

Eileen paused to allow the situation to sink in, before resuming, "Our first task is to retrieve the two lifeboats to the hangar. After that we'll drop to LV-142 on the location of the emergency beacon."

"Priest is running a scan now, between him and whatever we find on the lifeboats we should have more information when we hit the ground. For now we do know conditions on planet are difficult. It's dark, high levels of geothermal activily with a high number of active volcanoes, and a heavy carbon dioxide based atmosphere with atmospheric pressure considerably about Earth standard. The survey records mention some indigenous life, but primitive, mostly plants."

"Translated that means we'll have to wear spacesuits down there and we can expect reduction in weapon performance due to increased drag. Explosives will be less effective, and between atmospheric pressure and oxygen levels Priest's not sure if incinerators will function at all."

"Currently we have no idea of the circumstances that led the Andromeda to LV-142. Scans should reveal whether it crashed or landed, and the lifeboats may provide more data, but for now we'll assume the worst. That the terrorists are alive and active on the ship."

"Given the surface conditions the passengers should still be on the Andromeda. We will enter and search the ship, locate and kill the cultists, secure the other passengers and crew and assess what if any damage has been done by the biological device. There's a lot of unknowns here, we may find out more before we drop, we may not, so be ready for plans to change at short notice."

"First things first though, we're recovering the lifeboats. Complete prep, I want both squads armed and ready when those things are brought on board. We have no idea who if anyone is on board, so they're to be treated as hostile until we can positively identify them."

Eileen looked around the hangar, "Are there any questions?"

Nick stood towards the front of the marines facing Lieutenat Vincent.

"Sir I have a few questions. With the bio-hazard still unidentified do you think we should set up a decontamination area inside this hangar to prevent whatever it is from infecting us, that is if it's loose amongst the lifeboat passengers? Is there anyway we can scan those on the lifeboats before they come aboard? Once we've got them onboard and decontaminated where are we going to secure them?"

"I think we should get suited up now sir, so we can get used to the feel of running around in space suits again and it might provide some protection if the bio-hazard is rife amongst the lifeboat passengers. Plus I think we look snazzy in our spacesuits! Makes me feel like an astronaut!"

A huge grin covered Steels face as he said this.

Ronald just stood listening dumb folded to her speech and when she used the easy version he nodded for himself, he folded his arms and just kept close to Jacob being way to silent then he used to be, clearly the man was worried and didnt like running around in spacesuits, as Steel joked he just looked even more worried.

"Hmm, plants. Who knows what we may meet down there! No life forms beside plants and they had to choose t crash land down there of all places? Oh my god." Zarb said to Marines around him.

Zarb looked around for his squadmates and saw Pfc Bojan sitting there listening attentive to the briefing and struck up a conversation with him. "Hi mate, how's 2nd squad? This is my first mission and I am kinda anxious yet nervous at the same time. So how many missions have you been on and how long have you served?"

"I think what the sarge said makes sense. We do not know what are inside those containers and should they be very hazardous to us, we may not have the neccessary equipment to get those affected treated. And judging from the amount of medical equipment that I brought along, prevention would be better than cure."

Hmm, it has been a long time since Zarb put on that spacesuit that the Marines had. The last time was during his final training exercise during Basic Combat Days.

Laughing, Jacob looked towards James as if he was letting go of a secret

"Well, I've been in training in cadets and whatnot since I was old enough...now I've joined these guys - I've only been on one mission, but I like acting like a big shot" Grinning, Jacob moved back and chuckled again.

Turning to Eileen, Jacob quickly voiced his concern...

"Space Suits? Goddamn, can't we get an APC down there for planetside, I'd feel a hell of a lot safer y'know - I can shoot the vehicle's armaments, specialised in heavy weapons in my training y'know sir...erm....ma'am?"

"Hi, its Zarb isnt it?", replied Bojan "Well, i've only been in one unit and thats here and i've been in 2 missions so far. Second squads a good place to be, in our previous operation i worked with Morrison, Gagarin and a medic called Magnus Carter. Good guys to be in a scrap with. Carter has been transferred since. But, im the only member left since i joined. Apart from Carter, there was the squad leader Rednus Chappell, transferred, and Kelly Maguire, who was killed in my first mission."

"But, that's nothing to get worried about. Im still here arent I?" Bojan continued with a grin in an attempt to not make Zarb more nervous. "Oh and its good to be nervous, keeps you on your toes. But if its really getting to you, focus on something else until we start"

Eileen nodded at Steel, "Good ideas there, Sergeant. See to setting up decontamination here, and we'll secure the lifeboats here once that's done. Priest will scan the lifeboats as soon as we're in range, so we may have more information by then."

"As for the passengers, so long as they're in cryotubes we shouldn't be at any risk from them, but we can't guarantee that's the situation. We'll get suited up half an hour before we recover the lifeboats.

"Space Suits? Goddamn, can't we get an APC down there for planetside, I'd feel a hell of a lot safer y'know - I can shoot the vehicle's armaments, specialised in heavy weapons in my training y'know sir...erm....ma'am?"

"I know the ship's a luxury liner, but I don't think we're going to be able to drive an APC through the corridor's," Eileen replied with a small grin, "We'll drop with an APC, but I'm afraid you will have to leave it at some point, Honeysett. So... Space suits."

Turning to face the rest of the platoon, Nick stood at parade rest as he started barking out orders.

"Ok marines you heard the LT! Let's get this place ready for our guests. Pvt Pyro you're the specialist medic here so I want you to organise setting up a first aid station. We don't know what we are gonna find in those lifeboats but it's a pretty good bet that there will be wounded. Once they have been through decontamination check them over and deal with all minor wounds. All major wounds we'll send to the sickbay."

"Everyone else lets get the decontamination area set up here in the hangar, ASAP. Once that is done everyone is to suit up. Don't forget to double check your squad buddies seals and remember to check for any minor breaches. Remember that old basic training motto 'Vaccuum is not your friend'."

Nick turned to look for the wiry L Cpl Screaming Eagle.

"L Cpl Screaming Eagle, once we get the lifeboats on board first squad is on guard detail. I want your squad loaded for bear. We aren't sure of what we are going to find aboard them but I don't want to take any chances. Your squad will go in first to sweep and secure, second squad will go in second to bring out wounded or bodies."

"L Cpl Morrison, second squad will be on body detail. Your squad will be armed but basically we'll be going on board to help out the wounded and bring out any bodies we find. Since Pvt Pyro will be in charge of the first aid section I'll be filling in his place for your squad."

"You've got your orders now lets get to it!"

Ronald did answer or anything, he just did what the short squadleader said. Somehow he didnt seem like usual, he was down. Spacesuits, civilians and crap like that made Ronald sad, he hoped he wouldnt think so much under the mission, he wanted to live.

"Sweep and clear, god damn...and there are civilians too - this is gonna be a nightmare Y'know?" Checking his kit over once, and then twice, he turned to Nick "Sir, could I get more ammo for myself? I'd hate t'run out. Also - where I can have no incinerator due to atmosphere...maybe a pistol with a few clips, if there's one thing I don't want it's to run dry in mission!"

Falling out, Jacob moved away from most people and lit his cigarette. He was looking forward to this mission less and less each time - the good thing is, he could be as paranoid as possible - they really were out to get him in a situation like this...

Zarb got on with his work as requested but requested for the 2 volunteers to help him with the setting up of the station. He checked his supplies to make sure that he had enough to deal with any kind of situations and also to prepare for the worst should the need arise.

"Sir, does that mean that I would not be going with the rest of them on the mission but rather staying here manning this station?"
